IS CHRIST DIVIDED?

CORINTHIANS 1:1-17
“I
appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you
agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you
may be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

Corinthians 1:10
The
wide diversity of Christian churches leads us to reflect upon Paul’s question
to the Corinthians: “Is Christ divided?” With faith, we reply: “No!” and yet
our communities continue to harbor scandalous divisions. Paul directs harsh
words to the Corinthians for the way in which they have distorted the Gospel
and have broken the unity of the community. “I
follow Paul”; “I follow Apollo”; “I follow Peter”. Neither does Paul praise
those who consider Christ as their leader, because they were using his name in
order to distinguish themselves from the rest of the Christian community. We
cannot invoke the name of Christ in order to put up walls around ourselves. Our
unity, life, and salvation come from Christ, even though we may participate in
one group or another, and our local churches nourish our faith and help us to
walk as disciples of Jesus. Paul
challenges us to ask ourselves if we harbor division even in Christ’s name,
“emptying the cross of its power,” or if we share the good news of Jesus
Christ.
Prayer:
God of goodness, awaken in us a feeling of responsibility to maintain the unity
of your Church and the untiring desire to work towards reconciliation.

pongan todos de acuerdo y que no haya divisiones entre ustedes”

La amplia diversidad de iglesias
cristianas nos lleva a reflexionar sobre la pregunta de Pablo a los corintios:
“¿Está Cristo dividido?” Con fe, respondemos: “¡No!”, sin embargo
nuestras comunidades continúan albergando divisiones escandalosas. Pablo dirige
duras palabras a los corintios por la forma en que han distorsionado el
Evangelio y han roto la unidad de la comunidad. “Yo pertenezco a Pablo, yo a
Apolo, yo a Pedro”. Pablo tampoco alaba a aquellos que consideraban a
Cristo como su líder, porque utilizaban su nombre para separarse de los demás
en la comunidad cristiana. No podemos invocar el nombre de Cristo para levantar
muros a nuestro alrededor. Nuestra unidad, vida y salvación provienen de Cristo
y, aunque participemos en un grupo o en otro, y nuestras iglesias locales
alimentan en nosotros la fe y nos ayudan a caminar como discípulos de Jesús.
Pablo nos reta a preguntarnos si llevamos división incluso en el nombre de
Cristo , “vaciando la cruz de su poder”, o si compartimos la buena noticia de
Jesucristo.
Oración: Dios bueno, despierta en nosotros el sentido de
responsabilidad para mantener la unidad de tu Iglesia y el deseo incansable de
trabajar por la reconciliación.
