THIS IS THE DAY THAT GOD HAS MADE

PSALM 19:1-4

 “This is the day the Lord has made;

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Psalm 118:24 

One day my son came home very happy from school because he had been chosen to participate on the baseball team, and there was a game the following Saturday.  All that week it rained heavily for several days straight. On Saturday, however, the sun came out, even more resplendent after the copious rain. At breakfast my son wanted to say grace and he began the prayer by saying: “This is the day of the game.  Thank you, God, for the beautiful sunshine.”

This is the day!  We live in a world of natural wonders that we are used to bypassing without notice. It is only when we are lacking one of these blessings that we are able to appreciate the full worth of its beauty. When we enjoy it anew, we give fervent thanks to God, without realizing that we should constantly be doing so.  As great as material blessings are, the spiritual riches that God bestows upon us are infinitely more beautiful.

Prayer: Good and merciful God, forgive our forgetfulness of all your blessings. Amen.  

ESTE ES EL DÍA DE DIOS

SALMO 19:1-4

 “Este es el día que hizo Jehová:

nos gozaremos y alegraremos en él”

Salmo 118:24 

Cierto día mi hijo regresó de la escuela muy alegre porque lo habían escogido para participar del equipo de pelota que tendría un encuentro al sábado siguiente. Durante esa semana se desató una fuerte lluvia que continuó por varios días. El sábado no obstante salió el sol, más refulgente aun después de la copiosa lluvia. A la hora del desayuno mi hijo quiso dar las gracias y comenzó la oración así: “Este es el día del juego. Gracias Dios mío por el hermoso sol”.

¡Este es el día! Habitamos un mundo de maravillas naturales que acostumbramos a pasar desapercibidas. Solo  cuando algunas de estas bendiciones nos faltan, apreciamos en todo lo que vale su belleza. Cuando de nuevo disfrutamos de ella, le damos fervientes gracias a Dios, sin darnos cuenta de que debiéramos hacerlo constantemente. Por grandes que sean las  bendiciones materiales, las riquezas espirituales que Dios nos brinda son infinitamente más hermosas.

Oración: Dios misericordioso y bueno, perdona  nuestro olvido de todas tus bondades. Amén.
