DOMESTIC SPIRITUALITY
1 KINGS 17:8-16
“She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t
you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’”
Luke 10:40
What would become of the world, of culture
in general, of society or the church, if there were no people who took charge
of housecleaning, of organizing restfulness within the household, of doing the
laundry or making the bed, of preparing a birthday or wedding anniversary
celebration? What would become of us if
we didn’t devote time to deciding and watching over the education of our
children, or to beautifying our homes, or to listening to one another within
our families, or to the other small domestic details that render life more
pleasant?
The domestic environment has been
misunderstood by those who only see the possibilities of working within a
public space, but they need to be told that there is a warm spirituality within
the private space of the family and of the home; that it is there, and not behind
exalted positions, where an individual’s character and personality are
forged. Unforgettable pages of the
history of salvation are framed within a domestic environment.
Prayer: Lord, look with
pleasure upon this work that I do within my household for your glory. Amen.
ESPIRITUALIDAD DOMÉSTICA
1 REYES 17:8-16
“Marta se acercó a Jesús

¿no te preocupa nada que
mi hermana me deje sola
con todo el trabajo? Dile
que me ayude.”
Lucas 10:40
¿Qué sería del mundo, la
cultura en general, la sociedad o la
iglesia si no existieran personas que se ocuparan de la limpieza de la casa, de
organizar el descanso en el hogar, de lavar la ropa, de tender la cama, de
preparar la celebración de un cumpleaños o de un aniversario de boda? ¿Qué sería de nosotros si no dedicáramos tiempo a
decidir y velar por la educación de los hijos, por embellecer la vivienda, por
escucharnos entre sí los miembros de la familia, y por otros pequeños detalles
domésticos que hacen que la vida se torne más agradable?
El ámbito doméstico ha
sido mal comprendido por quienes solo ven posibilidades de realización en el
espacio público, pero hay que decirles a quienes así piensan que hay una
espiritualidad tierna en el espacio privado de la familia y el hogar; que es allí, y no detrás de encumbrados
cargos, donde en primera instancia se forja el carácter y la personalidad de
los individuos. No es trivial para nada lo que ocurre puertas adentro del hogar
y en la familia. Inolvidables páginas de
la historia de la salvación tienen como marco un ambiente doméstico.
Oración: Señor, mira con agrado
este trabajo que desde mi hogar hago para tu gloria. Amén.
