TRANSMITTING OUR FAITH
DeuteronomY 6: 20-25
“Tell your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in
Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.’”
Deuteronomy 6:21
The tribes of Israel were concerned about
transmitting their faith. One of the important tasks of the Israelite fathers
and mothers was to inculcate a sense of faith, teaching their sons and
daughters about their liberation from slavery at the hands of the pharaoh of
Egypt. And this teaching was important
for all of the people.
The
educational role of the family includes thinking about the decisions that we
often make concentrating only on what matters to us personally, or to our loved
ones.
These
attitudes of individualism are being seen more and more frequently in our
country, where everyone thinks only about what is best for oneself, and for
those closest to them, such as their family or their church. However, the history of faith of the
Israelites teaches us the opposite.
Prayer: Lord, grant that the vision of your people of transmitting their faith
from one generation to another may teach us also to think not only about our
wellbeing, but about that of others and of future generations. Amen.

Las tribus de Israel estaban preocupadas en transmitir
su fe. Una importante tarea de los padres, y madres de Israel era inculcar el
sentido de la fe, enseñándoles a sus hijos e hijas sobre la liberación de la
esclavitud de las manos del faraón de Egipto. Y esta enseñanza era importante
para todo el pueblo.
El rol educativo de la familia
incluye el pensar en las decisiones que a menudo tomamos concentrándonos
sólo en lo que me interesa a mí personalmente, o a los míos.
Cada vez con más frecuencia en nuestro país se están viendo actitudes de
individualismo, donde cada cual piensa en lo que es mejor para sí, y para su
grupo más cercano, dígase familia o
iglesia. Sin embargo, la historia de fe del pueblo de Israel nos enseña lo
contrario.
Oración: Señor, permite que la visión de tu pueblo de
transmitir la fe de una generación a otra, también nos enseñe a pensar no sólo
en nuestro bienestar, sino en el de
otras personas y en las generaciones venideras. Amén
