“IF LIFE
GIVES YOU LEMONS…”
2 KINGS 4:
1-7
“Elisha replied to her, ‘How can I help
you? Tell me, what do you have in your
house?’ ‘Your servant has nothing there at all,’ she said, ‘except a little
oil.’”
2 Kings 4:2
I’ve always liked the popular saying that serves as the title for today’s
devotional, but from our faith experience we could say: “If God gives you
lemons, learn to make lemonade.” Some people spend their lives complaining
about what they don’t have, what they lack, instead of concentrating their
efforts and being creative with the resources that God himself has given them.
The widow in the bible story was guided by the
prophet Elisha to recognize the resources she had at hand. She soon discovered that in addition to the
one jar of oil, she had neighbors and children who could help her to multiply
this simple jar of oil.
We are at times victims of injustices, we go through
crises, we suffer poverty and scarcity, and in our prayers to God we need to
keep our ears tuned in order to face such situations with the resources that we
have. It is not a matter of being conformists, but rather of being realists and
not waiting for magical solutions that don’t demand a bit of our participation
and creativity.
Therefore, pray to God, listen to his voice, and
take everything that God offers you in order to move forward.
Prayer: Creator God, help us not to be deterred when faced with difficulties. Give us the creativity to use the resources
that you have provided for us in the midst of situations of vulnerability and
uncertainty. Thank you because we know
that you are always with us and listen to our sorrows. Amen.
“SI LA VIDA TE DA LIMONES…”
2 REYES 4: 1-7
“Eliseo le dijo: ¿Y en qué te puedo ayudar?
Dime qué es lo que tienes en casa
La viuda dijo: Esta sierva tuya no tiene en casa
más que una vasija de aceite”
2 Reyes 4:2
Siempre me ha gustado el
refrán popular que sirve de título a esta meditación, solo que desde nuestra
experiencia de fe podríamos decir: “Si Dios te da limones aprende a hacer
limonada”
Algunas
personas viven quejándose por lo que no tienen, por lo que les falta, en vez de
concentrar sus esfuerzos y ser creativos con los recursos que les ha dado el
mismo Dios
La
viuda de la historia bíblica fue guiada por el profeta Eliseo para reconocer
los recursos de los que disponía. De pronto descubrió que además de una vasija
de aceite, tenía vecinos, e hijos que podían ayudarla a multiplicar esta simple
vasija de aceite.
En
ocasiones somos víctimas de injusticias, pasamos crisis, penurias y en nuestra
oración a Dios tenemos que mantener oídos atentos para enfrentarnos a tales
situaciones con los recursos de los que disponemos. No se trata de ser
conformistas, sino más bien realistas y no esperar por mágicas soluciones que
no demanden un poco de nuestra participación y creatividad.
Así
que, ora a Dios, escucha su voz y toma todo lo que Dios te ofrece para seguir
adelante.
Oración:
Dios creador, ayúdanos a no detenernos ante las dificultades. Danos creatividad
para usar los recursos de los que nos has provisto en medio de situaciones de
vulnerabilidad e incertidumbre. Gracias porque sabemos que siempre nos
acompañas y escuchas nuestros dolores. Amén
