FROM PERPETRATOR TO VICTIM

NUMBERS 12:1-16

“The LORD replied to Moses, ‘If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back.’”

Numbers 12:14

It almost always happens that in order to be in solidarity with someone who is suffering or has unjustly suffered, we have to have personally experienced it; and many times, even when we think that our purpose in life includes being with or walking alongside men and women who are discriminated against or excluded for gender, racial or generational reasons, we too can be guilty of injustice. Something very similar happened to Marion, as soon as she and Aaron pointed to Moses and criticized him for having fallen in love with an Ethiopian woman. And as every action in our lives has consequences, for Marion it did as well.  It is she who is then excluded according to the text, and not Aaron, solely for being a woman in that patriarchal society. Injustices always unleash greater injustices and tomorrow we may all be the victims.  Let us try to keep as one of our priorities the defense of justice above any prejudice, remembering that at each moment God gives us the opportunity to spiritually restore and renew ourselves in order to undo all unjust actions and to restore righteousness.

Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to not remain silent and to combat all acts of injustice that take place around me. Amen.

                                        

DE VICTIMARIO A VÍCTIMA

Números 12:1-16

^“Y el Señor le respondió: “Si su padre le escupiera en la cara, quedaría deshonrada durante siete días. Pues entonces,

que la echen fuera del campamento durante siete días,

y después podrá volver.”

Números 12:14

Casi siempre sucede que para solidarizarnos con alguna persona que sufre o ha sufrido injustamente tenemos que haberlo sentido en nuestra propia piel;   y es que muchas  veces, incluso aún cuando creemos que nuestros proyecto  en la vida incluyen el estar o el caminar junto a hombres y mujeres que son discriminadas o excluidas por cuestiones de género, raciales o generacionales, también podemos pecar de injusticia. Algo muy similar le ocurre a María, en un primer momento ella y Aarón señalan a Moisés y lo critican por haberse enamorado de una mujer etíope, y como  toda acción en nuestras vidas tiene consecuencias, para María también las tuvo. Es ella a quien  excluyen en un segundo  momento en el texto y no a Aarón,  a ella, solamente por ser mujer en aquella sociedad patriarcal. Las injusticias siempre desencadenan mayores injusticias Y quizás mañana podamos ser las víctimas. Tratemos de mantener  como una de nuestras prioridades la defensa de la justicia por  encima de cualquier prejuicio, recordemos que Dios a cada  momento nos da la oportunidad  de restaurarnos espiritualmente y  renovarnos para deshacer toda acción injusta y restituir la justicia.

Oración: Señor, dame la fortaleza para no callar y combatir  todo acto  injusto que suceda a mi alrededor. Amén.
