SaraI: THE ONE THEY
CALLED BARREN
Genesis 18:1-15
“…because
he considered him faithful who had made the promise.”
Hebrews 11:11
There are
different types of promises; there are some that one realizes are wielded only
in order to make it through a problem. This is also the reason that there are varying
opinions with regard to promises. Those
who act in favor of promises do not do so out of naïveté. They place their
trust in the person who is making the promise.
Much has been said about Abraham as the father of faith; and we always
attack Sara’s disbelief when she laughed at the promise, but verse 17 of
Chapter 17 of Genesis tells us that Abraham laughed and initially questioned
the promise of God.
It is easy to believe when all our circumstances are favorable. But what about when everything is going
against us? Sarai found herself in such circumstances. Nevertheless, in accordance with the customs
of the times, she sought alternatives in order to make good on the promise that
she would have descendants. The Lord ultimately fulfilled his promise.
There is an old hymn that affirms “All the promises of the Lord Jesus are
a powerful support of my faith.” What
great trust this hymn inspires! Today,
when it can seem to many that everything is going against the Lord’s promises,
let us trust that He will fulfill them.
Prayer: Lord, increase our faith and our trust in your promises. Amen.

Hay diferentes tipos de
promesas, las hay que uno se da cuenta que se esgrimen sólo para salir del
paso. Por eso también hay opiniones encontradas con referencia a las promesas.
Los que están a favor de las promesas, no lo hacen por ingenuidad. Confían, en
dependencia de quién es el que hace la promesa.
Mucho se ha hablado de
Abraham como padre de la fe; y siempre arremetemos contra la incredulidad de
Sara al reírse de la promesa, pero el versículo 17 de capítulo 17 del Génesis
nos cuenta que Abrahán se rió y cuestionó primero la promesa de Dios.
Creer es fácil cuando
todas las circunstancias son favorables. Pero, ¿y qué cuándo todo está en
contra? Saraí se encontraba en estas circunstancias. No obstante ella, de
acuerdo con las costumbres de la época, buscó alternativas para que se pudiera
hacer realidad la promesa de que tendría descendencia. Finalmente el Señor
cumplió su promesa.
Existe un antiguo himno
que afirma “Todas las promesas del Señor Jesús, son apoyo poderoso de mi fe”.
¡Qué confianza tan grande inspira este himno! Hoy, cuando para muchos todo
pueda parecer que está en contra de las promesas del Señor, tenemos la
confianza de que El las cumplirá.
Oración: Señor, auméntanos la fe
y la confianza en tus promesas. Amén
