YOUR HEART IS A MUSIC BOX

I THESSALONIANS 5:16-24

Be joyful always

1 Thessalonians 5:16

It seems somewhat absurd, and it is to a certain extent, this exhortation that the apostle makes. It is certainly difficult to imagine our lives so full of satisfaction that we would always be joyful or that everything we experience would be a reason to give thanks. Paul, however, is referring to the disposition with which we should confront life. If in addition to the constant difficulties, typical of instances in our existence, we add a negative predisposition to our spirit to confront them, it will then be very difficult to feel the peace of God within our hearts.

In the case of Christian men and women we should assume life’s challenges with the certainty that God is with us. Even if this does not bring a smile to our lips, it gives us enough joy to acknowledge the presence of an unconditional friend at our side, a fair judge, one who will never forsake us.

In the words of this beautiful hymn:

“Your heart is a music box

Where God has placed his song.

It is no longer right for us to cloud the dawn

Nor to clothe the entire sky in gray;

The windows must be opened once and for all

Only thus can we rejoice today.”

Prayer: God of goodness, help us to face our lives with the satisfaction of knowing that you are by our sides. That is our joy. Amen.

TU CORAZÓN ES UNA CAJA DE MÚSICA

Estad siempre gozosos

1 Tesalonicenses 5:16

Parece algo absurdo, y hasta cierto punto lo es, esta exhortación que hace el apóstol. Ciertamente es difícil imaginar nuestra vida tan plena de satisfacción que siempre estemos alegres o todo lo que vivamos sea motivo de acción de gracias. Sin embargo, más bien a lo que se refiere Pablo es a la disposición con que debemos enfrentar la vida. Si además de las constantes dificultades, propias de momentos de nuestra existencia, agregamos una predisposición negativa en cuanto a nuestro ánimo para enfrentarlas, entonces muy difícilmente podremos sentir la paz de Dios en nuestros corazones.

En el caso de los cristianos y cristianas debemos asumir los retos de la vida con la seguridad de que Dios está con nosotros. Esto, si bien no hace brotar una sonrisa de nuestros labios, nos brinda el suficiente gozo de reconocer junto a nosotros un amigo incondicional, un juez justo, aquel que nunca nos faltará.

Como dice ese hermoso himno:

“Tu corazón es una caja de música

donde Dios colocó su canción.

Ya no es justo que enturbiemos la aurora

Ni vistamos todo el cielo de gris

Hay que abrir de una vez las ventanas

Sólo así se podrá ser feliz”

Oración: Dios bueno, ayúdanos a enfrentar la vida con la satisfacción de saberte junto a nosotros. Ese es nuestro gozo. Amén.
