Day of Women
Mary: humble servant of
god
Matthew 1: 19-25
“They all joined together constantly in prayer,
along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.”
Acts1:14
Let us
begin with a popular saying: “all
extremes are bad.” And in the case of the character of Mary, the mother of
Jesus, the saying is true. In some branches of Christianity the figure of Mary
is elevated to the level of a popular religion that is above Jesus. On the
other hand, other Christian groups reduce her role to little more than nothing.
We often forget the position that the Gospels give to her. In the Gospel
of Luke the Annunciation declares: “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was assuredly
chosen by God for this great ministry:
to be the medium through which the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ
would be produced.
The Lord chooses us to achieve his purposes in our world. Without
realizing it we are often collaborators of God in his plans. Can you think of
an instance when, like Mary, you can play a very important role in God’s plans?
Let us therefore respond with the fullness and commitment of Mary. She
confessed her faith in a God of justice who lifts up the humble and brings down
the powerful. May our testimony confirm this same faith in the God of
righteousness with words and deeds!
Prayer: Just and faithful Lord, allow us to be useful instruments on this day. Amen.

María:
humilde sierva de dios

rogaban a Dios continuamente,
en unión de las mujeres,
de María la madre de Jesús,
y de sus hermanos”

Comenzaremos con un
refrán popular: “todos los extremos son malos”. Y en el caso del personaje de
María, la madre de Jesús, se cumple. En algunas ramas del cristianismo se eleva
tanto la figura de María, que al menos a nivel de religión popular está por encima
de Jesús. Por otra parte, otros grupos cristianos reducen su papel a poco menos
que nada.
A menudo nos olvidamos
del lugar que le conceden los Evangelios. En el evangelio de Lucas se afirma en
la Anunciación: “! Salve muy favorecida! El Señor está contigo” Ciertamente
María fue escogida por Dios para un gran ministerio: ser el medio a través del
cual se produciría la encarnación de Dios en Jesucristo.
El Señor nos escoge para
realizar sus propósitos en nuestro mundo. Muchas veces sin darnos cuenta somos
colaboradoras de Dios en sus planes ¿Has pensado en algún momento que, al igual
que María, tu puedes ser muy importante en los planes de Dios?
Respondamos pues con la
entereza y compromiso de María. Ella confesó su fe en un Dios de justicia que
exalta a los humildes y despide a los poderosos. ¡Que nuestro testimonio
confirme con palabras y obras esa misma fe en el Dios de justicia!
Oración: Señor justo y fiel,
permite que podamos ser instrumentos útiles en este día. Amén
