End of The Week of the Family

AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES

ACTS 1:1-11

And they went out and proclaimed the good news

   everywhere while the Lord worked with them and confirmed

 the message by the signs that accompanied it.

Mark 16:20

Today the church celebrates the Ascension of the Lord, an event which occurred forty days after the Resurrection. The Ascension reminds us of the urgency of transmitting the faith we possess and live. Before rising to heaven to be seated at the right hand of God Jesus asked his disciples to be his witnesses in the world. That task he set us is nothing easy!

There are Christians who, ignoring Jesus’ commandment, take no interest in the world’s affairs and live a disembodied faith. But Jesus didn’t just call us to look towards heaven, but to walk the earth, announce the good news, and to implicate ourselves in such important things as the defense of life, human dignity, justice and peace.

If Christ is with us, who can be against us? It’s time to be committed Christians. Let us not hide when we see that the world needs the Good News. Remember, we were called to give witness to the Truth.

Prayer:  Lord, you who rose to heaven to intercede for us before the Father, give us today what you promised us and at the end of the journey permit us to tell you that we have finished what you asked of us. Amen

Domingo de la Ascensión del Señor

HECHOS  1:1-11

El Señor los ayudaba confirmando la palabra

con las señales que la acompañaban.

Marcos 16:20

Hoy la Iglesia celebra la ascensión del Señor, un hecho acontecido cuarenta días después de la Resurrección. La Ascensión nos recuerda la urgencia de transmitir la fe que profesamos y vivimos. Jesús,  antes de subir al cielo para sentarse a la derecha del Padre, pidió a los suyos que fueran sus testigos en el mundo. ¡No es fácil la tarea que nos asignó el Señor!

Hay cristianos que, ignorando el mandato de Jesús, se desentienden de los asuntos de este mundo y viven una fe desencarnada. Pero Jesús no nos llamó a mirar sólo hacia el cielo,  sino a pisar la tierra, a anunciar la buena noticia y a implicarnos en cosas tan importantes como la defensa de la vida, de la dignidad del ser humano, de la justicia y de la paz.

Si Cristo está con nosotros, ¿quién estará contra nosotros? Es la hora de ser cristianos comprometidos. No nos escondamos cuando veamos que nuestro mundo necesita la Buena Noticia, recuerda que fuimos llamados a dar testimonio de la Verdad.

Oración: Señor, tú que subiste al cielo para interceder por nosotros ante el Padre, danos hoy lo que nos prometiste y permite que al final de la jornada podamos decirte que cumplimos lo que nos mandaste. Amén.
