NICODEMUS:
OBSTINATE NIGHT OWL
JOHN 19:38- 42
The
light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness cannot overcome it. John
1: 5
According to the Evangelist John, Nicodemus may claim the honor
of being Christ’s inspirational motive for leaving two momentous passages. The
first is that in which the Master speaks of the need to be born again; and the
second is when he underscores the importance of light to human beings.
Nicodemus has been considered an anxious inquisitor who searches
for a solution to his religious problems. But his performance says differently.
Nicodemus came by night, fearing the Pharisee’s accusations. Earlier,
he had substantially defended the Master before the Sanhedrin, and then had kept
silent seeing the manifestations of the Messiah’s enemies. He returns by night
among the shadows of Golgotha with a few “aromatic substances”. All in the
shadows, away from the light.
At Jesus’ crucifixion Nicodemus represents conservatism and fear,
which have nothing to do with a true conversion.
To know if someone has experienced conversion one has only to
ask: What do you do? What congregation do you belong to? How is your Christian
militancy? “Sunshine Christians” don’t exist, and if one does, he’s another
obstinate night owl.
Your testimony in the darkness is worthless. Think about it!
Prayer: Lord, help me to be an
exponent of Christ’s light. Amen.

NICODEMO: NOCTAMBULO CONTUMAZ
JUAN 19:38-42
La luz en las tinieblas resplandece
y las tinieblas no prevalecieron contra ella.
Juan 1:5
Corresponde a Nicodemo el
honor de haber sido motivo de inspiración para que Cristo dejara según el
Evangelista Juan dos grandes pasajes. El primero es aquel en el cual el Maestro
nos habla de la necesidad de un nuevo nacimiento; y el segundo cuando señala la
importancia de la luz para el ser humano.
Nicodemo ha sido considerado como inquisidor
ansioso que busca una solución a sus problemas religiosos. Pero su actuación
dice lo contrario.
Vino a Jesús de noche por miedo a la crítica de
los Fariseos. En el Sanedrín defiende cuantioso al Maestro y guarda silencio
ante las manifestaciones de los enemigos del Mesías; y vuelve de noche entre
las sombras del Gólgota con un poco de “sustancias aromáticas”. Todo en las
sombras, fuera de la luz.
En la crucifixión de Cristo, Nicodemo representa
al conservadurismo y el miedo; lo cual nada tiene que ver con una verdadera
conversión.
Para saber si hay conversión en alguien solo hay
que preguntar: ¿Qué hace? ¿A qué congregación perteneces? ¿Cómo es su
militancia cristiana? El cristiano “por la libre” no existe, y si lo es otro
noctámbulo contumaz.
Tu testimonio en la obscuridad no vale. ¡Piénsalo!
Oración: Señor, permite ser exponente de la luz de
Cristo. Amén.
