SPEAKING IN PARABLES

Mark 4:26-34

“The good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom.”

Matthew 13:38

“Who is this sower?” The response leaves no room for doubt:  it is God. The Lord has chosen to compare himself to a farmer here. It is God who waters the seed.  And what is this seed?  That seed is Jesus Christ, our Lord. Jesus Christ is the grain of wheat, who came from heaven and fell on the earth.  He himself said it: “If the grain of wheat does not die, it remains unfertilized.” (John 12:24) The very death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the mystery of the grain that dies and of a grain that resuscitates, that sprouts, and that continues to grow.

And where does that seed continue to grow? That seed grows in the community of faith and it also sprouts in each one of us at times in an almost imperceptible manner, daily and overnight without anyone knowing how.

Also within each one of us, the day that we were baptized, God planted faith.  Faith is a gift of God, coming from God, the Sower of divine life. An initial amount of faith is as small as a mustard seed. But as of the day that we acquire the use of reasoning, this faith has begun to grow.  Because our faith has a history, with its highs and its lows.  But if we remain faithful, our faith tends to grow against wind and tide, until it becomes a solid tree in which the birds can perch.

Prayer: Lord, you are the sower of the seed of life eternal and I am the earth. Amen.

Marcos 4:26-34

“La buena semilla son los hijos del reino”

Mateo 13:38

¿Quién es este sembrador?” La respuesta no deja dudas: es Dios. El Señor ha querido compararse aquí con un agricultor. Es Dios quien arroja la semilla. ¿Y cuál es esta semilla? Esa semilla es Jesucristo, nuestro Señor. Jesucristo es el grano de trigo, que vino del cielo y cayó en la tierra. Él mismo lo dijo: “Si el grano de trigo no muere queda infecundo” (Jn 12,24). La propia muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo es el misterio de un grano que muere y de un grano que resucita, que brota, y que va creciendo.

¿Y dónde va creciendo esa semilla? Es semilla crece en la comunidad de la fe y brota también en cada uno de nosotros a veces de manera casi imperceptible, de día y de noche sin que alcancemos a saber cómo.

También en cada uno de nosotros, el día en que fuimos bautizados, Dios sembró la fe. La fe es un don de Dios, viene de Dios, el sembrador de la vida divina. Una fe inicial, pequeña, como el grano de mostaza. Pero, a partir del día, en que adquirimos el uso de la razón, esa fe comenzó a crecer. Porque nuestra fe tiene una historia, con sus altas y sus bajas. Pero si nos mantenemos fieles, nuestra fe tiende a crecer contra viento y marea, hasta hacerse un árbol sólido donde anidan los pájaros.

Oración: Señor, tú eres el sembrador de la semilla de vida eterna y yo la tierra. Amén
