ONE THING YOU
LACK…
Mark 10:28-31
“What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Mark 10:17
To resign means voluntarily abstaining from
certain things. Jesus’s disciples gave up their fishing nets and other jobs in
order to follow him. Peter
himself—speaking on behalf of the group—said: “We have left everything to
follow you!”
The Christian life, when it is genuine, entails
resigning. “No one who puts his hand to
the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)
But there are many attachments that impede our willingness to become disciples.
How many things must you give up in order to follow Christ? What are the “riches’ that hold you back from
fully and unconditionally committing yourself to the Lord?
Don’t forget
that those who leave their own family out of love for Christ enter into and
become part of the spiritual family of God.
And even though on its account they may suffer persecution and scorn,
they will always find the prize that the Lord confers upon this detachment.
Prayer: Lord, I want to “detach myself” from what is tying me down today and, in
your Name, to spend my time visiting whoever is in need. Amen.

Renunciar
significa abstenerse voluntariamente de ciertas cosas. Los discípulos de Jesús
renunciaron a sus redes y otros trabajos para seguirle. El propio Pedro
–hablando en nombre del grupo— dijo: “Como sabes, nosotros lo hemos dejado
todo, y te hemos seguido”.
La
vida cristiana cuando es verdadera conlleva renuncias. “Nadie que mire hacia
atrás, después de poner la mano en el arado, es apto para el reino de Dios” (Lc
9:62). Pero hay muchas ataduras que nos impiden estar disponibles para ser
discípulos. ¿De cuántas cosas no puedes desprenderte para seguir a Cristo?
¿Cuáles son las “riquezas” que te impiden entregarte plena e incondicionalmente
al Señor?
No olvides que quienes por amor a Cristo dejan la propia familia, entran a
formar parte de la familia espiritual de Dios, y aunque sufran por ello
persecuciones y desprecio, encontrarán siempre el premio que el Señor otorga a
su desprendimiento.
Oración: Señor, quiero “desprenderme” de lo que me ata hoy y, en tu Nombre,
compartir mi tiempo visitando a quien está en necesidad. Amén.
