THE PENCIL OF GOD

Mark 10:35-45

“My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

John 12:26

Theresa of Calcutta said: “I am the pencil of God. A piece of pencil with which he writes whatever he wishes.” The Twelve Disciples were not a group of saints, but rather men with defects and virtues, as are each one of us, who are not perfect.  Jesus determined to change the world with people like us, and he did.

The misunderstanding and confusion of James and of John consisted of asking for a senseless privilege after having heard the announcement that Jesus had made to them about what would happen to him in Jerusalem: “You don’t know what you are asking.”

Genuine Christians do not seek privileged positions or power or wealth but rather to be servants.  Otherwise we would be doing the same as those who are not Christian, and which to this day have not been able to show a profound transformation to the human race, in order to turn them into better and more responsible citizens of the world.

Jesus preached using his own life. Jesus did not come into the world in order to be served, but rather to serve and to give his life as ransom for many. Let us therefore examine and ask ourselves if what we do and say is in order to achieve glory and fame in this world or in order to serve others.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for desiring to be first, or for the flattery of authorities, and for forgetting that my primary duty is to serve others. Amen

Teresa de Calcuta dijo: “Yo soy el lápiz de Dios. Un trozo de lápiz con el cual él escribe aquello que quiere”. Los Doce no eran un grupo de santos, sino hombres con defectos y virtudes, como somos cada uno de nosotros, que no somos perfectos. Jesús se propuso cambiar el mundo con gente como nosotros, y lo hizo.

El despiste y la confusión de Santiago y de Juan consistió en pedir un privilegio sin sentido después de haber escuchado el anuncio que Jesús les había hecho acerca de lo que habría de sucederle en Jerusalén: “Ustedes no saben lo que piden”.

Los cristianos auténticos no buscan puestos, ni poder ni riquezas, sino ser servidores, lo contrario sería reproducir lo mismo que hacen los que no son cristianos y que hasta ahora no ha demostrado poder transformar profundamente al ser humano, para hacerlo un mejor y más responsable ciudadano.

Jesús predicó con su propia vida. Jesús no vino al mundo para ser servido, sino para servir y dar su vida como rescate por muchos. Examinémonos y preguntémonos si lo que hacemos y decimos lo hacemos para alcanzar gloria y fama en este mundo o para servir a los demás.

Oración: Señor, perdóname por desear los primeros puestos o el halago de las autoridades, y olvidar que mi primer deber es amar y servir a los demás. Amén.
