AGAINST ALL HOPE

Romans 4:13-25

“Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Hebrews 6:12

Abraham is the father of all believers.  “He believed in hope against all hope, and came to be the father of many peoples.” Abraham believed God’s promise.  He lived and walked in his faith.  All his actions were actions based on faith. By faith he left his native land to go to the foreign land of Canaan.  By faith he settled the new and fertile lands. By faith he hoped for his son Isaac.  By faith he exposed him to death.  He lived always in that trust that everything that God was powerful to do all that He had promised.  And it was that confidence of Abraham that was credited to him as righteousness.

It is not so much what we do that counts, as the motives that inspire our work.  For Abraham, faith meant living in the security of the divine promise.  God had said to him: “Leave your country, your people, and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1) And Abraham lived anchored to that promise, sustained by that faith.

Prayer: Lord, increase my faith so that I may always trust in your promises. Amen.

CONTRA TODA ESPERANZA

Romanos 4 4:13-25

“Sigan el ejemplo de quienes por medio de la fe

y la paciencia heredan las promesas”

Hebreos 6:12

Abraham es el padre de los creyentes. “El creyó en esperanza contra esperanza, para venir a ser padre de muchas gentes”. Abraham creyó en la promesa de Dios. Vivió y anduvo en su fe. Todos sus actos fueron actos fundados en la fe. Salió de su tierra hacia Canaán por fe. Tomó las tierras nuevas fértiles, por fe. Esperó a su hijo Isaac, por fe. Lo expuso a la muerte, por fe. Vivió siempre en esa confianza, de que todo lo que Dios había prometido era poderoso para hacerlo. Y esa seguridad de Abraham se le tuvo por justicia.

No es tanto lo que hacemos lo que cuenta, sino los motivos que nos impulsan a obrar. Fe fue para Abraham, vivir en la seguridad de la promesa divina. Dios le había dicho: “Vete de tu tierra y de tu parentela, a la tierra que te mostraré. Yo haré de ti una nación grande, para bien de todas las naciones”.

Y Abraham vivió afincado a esa promesa, sostenido en esa fe.

Oración: Señor, auméntame la fe para confiar siempre en tus promesas. Amén.
