THE LORD KEEPS REACHING OUT

Isaiah 48:17-19

“Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!”

Deuteronomy 5:29

Why is it so difficult for us to sustain relationships?  Why do divisions within the church sometimes arise?  Why is it so complicated to build community?  Today’s prophesy investigates these questions and for answers it goes to the source of communal life in the Bible: walking through the desert.

Community cannot be built, bad relationships cannot be avoided, and sooner or later, without the educational groundwork, the greediness that inhabits the human heart will rear its head and destroy the dream of a just and fraternal world.

The prophet shows us the pedagogic face of God and has it speak to us: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)

It is true that it is not easy to live in accordance with the Gospel and that there will always be excuses for postponing conversion.  Coincidentally, we are the people to whom it is most difficult to preach, and in whom there is the greatest resistance; those who are already (or should be) on the pathway.

Conversion is not easy, and yet, the Lord, who knows all about teaching, continues to call us.

Praying: Lord, show me the way that I should follow, so that my name will not be erased from your presence.

EL SEÑOR SIGUE LLAMANDO

Isaías 48:17-19

“¡Cómo quisiera yo que me temieran y cumplieran siempre

todos mis mandamientos, para que a ellos y a sus hijos

les fuera siempre bien!”

¿Por qué será que nos cuesta tanto sostener las relaciones? ¿Por qué a veces surgen divisiones dentro de la iglesia? ¿Por qué es tan complicado hacer comunidad? La profecía de hoy indaga sobre estas preguntas y para ello se va a la fuente de la vida comunitaria en la Biblia: el caminar por el desierto.

No se puede hacer comunidad, no se evitan las malas relaciones, si no se hace el camino educativo, porque tarde o temprano, la mezquindad que habita en el corazón sale a relucir y el sueño de un mundo justo y fraterno se viene abajo.

El profeta nos presenta el rostro del Dios pedagogo y lo hace hablar así:“Yo te enseño lo que ha de serte útil, te guío por el camino que tienes que seguir” (48,17).

Es verdad que no es fácil vivir de acuerdo con el Evangelio y que siempre habrá excusas para aplazar la conversión. Casualmente las personas más difíciles para predicarles, en los que habitualmente hay más resistencias, somos nosotros, los que ya estamos (o        deberíamos estar) en el camino.

No es fácil la conversión, con todo, el Señor, que de pedagogía sabe, sigue llamando.

Oración: Señor, muéstrame el camino que debo seguir, para que mi nombre no sea borrado de tu presencia.
