THE ROAD OF PREPARATION

PSALM 24:1-4a, 5-6

“Create in me a pure heart, O God,

and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Psalm 51:10

How many times have we prepared ourselves for the coming of the Lord?  Certainly there have been many.  And yet, we cannot settle for having done it before; rather, we must, once again, prepare ourselves to encounter the Son of God, who is coming to visit us.  Being ready presupposes preparing ourselves inwardly in a responsible manner.  There is a hymn that is frequently used during our Advent and Christmas worship services, reminding us that “The Lord is born every day.”

We should not reserve our preparation for Lent (prior to Holy Week) and Advent (prior to Christmas).  Our preparation to receive and welcome God should be constant.

The psalmist expresses in a certain way that only he who “has cleansed hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol” (Psalm 24:4) is prepared.

Applying this command to ourselves is difficult, but not impossible.  It can be achieved if we are able to experience the wait in a daily fashion; if we draw nearer to God and allow ourselves to be transformed through the action of the Spirit.

Hands are a symbol of our daily actions and the heart symbolizes our intentions.  May everything within us be clean and transparent.  Remember that today there is still an opportunity, that you still have time to prepare yourself.

Prayer: My God, illumine me, watch over me, guide me, change me, because my trust is in You. Amen.

EL CAMINO DE PREPARACIÓN

SALMO  24:1-4a, 5-6

“Dios mío, ¡crea en mí un corazón limpio!

¡Renueva en mí un espíritu de rectitud!”

Salmo 51:10

¿Cuántas veces nos hemos preparado para la venida del Señor? Seguramente son muchas. Sin embargo, no podemos conformarnos con lo que hicimos antes; sino que, una vez más, debemos estar disponibles para el encuentro con el Hijo de Dios, que viene a visitarnos. Estar disponibles, supone prepararse interiormente de una manera responsable. Hay un himno usado frecuentemente en nuestras liturgias de Adviento y Navidad, que nos advierte que “Todos los días nace el Señor”. No debemos reservar nuestra preparación para los períodos de Cuaresma (antes de la Semana Santa) y Adviento (antes de la navidad). Nuestra preparación para recibir y acoger a Dios debe ser constante.

El salmista expresa de alguna manera que solo está preparado “quien tiene limpias las manos y puro el corazón, quien no ha elevado su alma a cosas vanas”. Aplicarnos esta exigencia a nosotros mismos resulta difícil, pero no imposible. Se logra si podemos vivir la espera de una manera cotidiana, si nos acercamos más a Dios y nos dejamos transformar por la acción del Espíritu.

Las manos son un símbolo de nuestra acción cotidiana y el corazón de nuestras intenciones. Que todo en nosotros sea limpio y transparente. Recuerda que hoy todavía hay una oportunidad, que aún estás a tiempo de prepararte.

Oración: Dios mío, ilumíname, guárdame, guíame, cámbiame, puesto que a Ti me confío. Amén.
