A RENEWAL EVERY DAY
II CORINTHIANS 4:7-18
“......Though
outwardly we are wasting away
yet inwardly we are
renewed day by day.”
II Corinthians 4:16
There are a great
number of people who don’t want to get old, generally because they fear old age
as though that stage of life weren’t worth living.
And how thankful we
should be to our God that he allows us to age! We should thank him for giving
us a long life, and especially when that life has been in service and with faithfulness
to Him.
The elderly person
who has Christ has experienced the same feeling Paul had; the exterior man –
that is, the physical body – continues to wear out, but inwardly it is
renewed every day; because those who trust in the Lord will be like trees
planted next to the water, that in the following year will not wither nor cease
bearing fruit.
Physical energies
will be limited because the vitality of youth is past. But then how much fruit
can be gleaned through the testimony, the prayers, and the many experiences the
Lord permits the elderly to evidence! Every wrinkle, each white hair, each mark
of our body – the gleam in the eye – everything is a sign of the years lived;
it is God’s love reflected in a life that has been blessed by years.
That’s why the
elderly in many cultures are respected and venerated. What about us? Are we
thankful to God for the many years we’ve lived? Or are we always complaining
about our aches and pains? Brothers and sisters, there’s no need to ask forgiveness
for living so many years. Instead, thank God because he has allowed many to
reach advanced age, and above all thank him for the abundant life he gives us
in Jesus Christ.
Prayer: God of goodness, we
pray today especially for the elderly. Above all for those who are alone.
Accompany and bless them. Amen.

RENUEVO CADA DÍA
II
CORINTIOS 4:7-18

este nuestro hombre exterior se va desgastando,
el
interior… se renueva de día en día”
II
Corintios 4:16
Hay
un gran número de personas que no quieren envejecer, generalmente porque le
temen a la vejez, como si esta etapa de la vida no valiera la pena vivirse. ¡Y
qué agradecidos debemos estar a nuestro Dios porque nos permite envejecer!
Debemos agradecerle por proporcionarnos una larga vida, sobre todo cuando esa
vida ha sido de servicio y fidelidad a Él.
La
persona anciana que tiene a Cristo, ha experimentado el mismo sentir que hubo
en Pablo; el hombre exterior, es decir,
el cuerpo físico, se va desgastando, pero interiormente se renueva cada día. Y
es que los que confían en el Señor serán como árboles plantados junto a las
aguas, que en el año de seguía, no se fatigarán, ni dejarán de dar frutos. Las
fuerzas físicas podrán estar limitadas porque ya no se tiene la vitalidad de la
juventud. ¡Pero cuánto fruto se puede llevar mediante el testimonio, las
oraciones y las muchas experiencias que el Señor permite llevar en la vejez!
Cada arruga, cada cabello blanco, cada marca de nuestro cuerpo, el brillo en la
mirada, todo es una señal de los años vividos, es el amor de Dios reflejado en
una vida que ha sido bendecida con los años. Es por eso que en muchas culturas
las personas ancianas son respetadas y veneradas. ¿Y nosotros? ¿Somos agradecidos a Dios por
los muchos años vividos? ¿O siempre nos quejamos por los achaques de nuestra
ancianidad? Hermanos y hermanas, no hay que pedir perdón por vivir tantos años,
más bien agradezca a Dios porque a
muchos nos permite llegar a una edad avanzada, pero sobre todo
agradézcale por la vida abundante que
nos da en Jesucristo.
Oración:
Dios bondadoso, te pedimos hoy especialmente por las
personas ancianas, sobre todo por aquellos que están solos. Acompáñalos y bendíceles. Amén,
