BEING RESPONSIBLE
GALATIANS 6:1-10
“each of us will give
an account of himself to God.”
Romans 14:12
The Word responsible comes from the Latin respondere, which means to be
accountable, to assume consequences. A responsible person recognizes the
obligation to meet commitments. As human beings we are generally responsible
for many situations of daily living: our work, our family, our friends, our
health, our general social obligations. But do we stop to think about our
responsibilities before God, the source of our lives?
Each of us should assume
the great responsibility of responding to the love that God demonstrated in his
incarnation in Jesus. Moreover, “to be incarnate – to embody” ought to be our
attitude: entering into and identifying ourselves with issues of justice and
peace around us and in all the world, looking with caring eyes on those who
have no voice in the world. This would be truly a responsible attitude on our
part.
Just remember how
Jesus, God himself, lived among us and, amid hostile conditions, inaugurated
the kingdom of God. Remember what risks he endured and how he died for us, his friends,
and for all of humankind. Remember how his resurrection gives meaning to the
faith which we profess today, as it has for generations. To such surrender,
such an identification of God with ourselves, we need to respond: with a life
consecrated to God, with a will to fulfill the mission which he has given us to
proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom to every creature.
Today is the good and
acceptable day to respond to God’s love!
Prayer: Lord, help us to be responsible
with the mission that you have entrusted to us. May we always preach with our
words and our example, Amen.

La
palabra responsable viene del latín respondere, que significa
hacerse cargo, asumir las consecuencias. Una persona responsable reconoce la
obligación de cumplir con sus compromisos. Los seres humanos generalmente
debemos ser responsables ante muchas situaciones de nuestra vida: nuestro
trabajo, nuestra familia, nuestras amistades, nuestra salud, ante nuestra
sociedad en general. ¿Pero alguna vez nos hemos puesto a pensar sobre nuestra
responsabilidad ante Dios, autor de nuestras vidas? Cada uno de nosotros
debería asumir la responsabilidad inmensa que resulta responder al amor de Dios
demostrado en su encarnación en Jesús. “Encarnarse” debería ser también nuestra
actitud: adentrarnos e identificarnos con las causas de justicia y paz a
nuestro alrededor y el mundo todo; mirar con ojos sensibles el dolor de
aquellos y aquellos y aquellas que no tienen voz en la sociedad. Esa sería una
actitud realmente responsable de nuestra parte. Recordemos apenas cómo Jesús,
Dios mismo, vivió entre nosotros y cómo inauguró en medio de hostiles
condiciones el reino de Dios. Recordemos cómo se arriesgó y hasta murió por
nosotros, sus amigos y amigas, y por toda la humanidad. Recordemos cómo su
resurrección da sentido a la fe que hoy profesamos, y así ha sido por
generaciones. A tal entrega, a tal identificación de Dios con nosotros, debemos
entonces responder: con una vida consagrada a Dios, con una voluntad de cumplir
con la Misión que él nos dio de proclamar la buena noticia de su reino a toda
criatura.
¡Hoy
es el día adecuado para responder al amor de Dios!
Oración:
Señor, ayúdanos a ser responsables con la misión que tú nos has
encomendado. Que prediquemos con nuestras palabras y ejemplo siempre.
Amén.
