TREASURES OF THE SOUL

LUKE 12:32-34

“For where your treasure is,

there your heart will be also.”

Luke 12:34

     The story goes that a very poor person with a child in his arms was passing by a cavern and heard a mysterious voice coming from within saying to him, “Enter and take all you desire, but don’t forget what is essential. After a few minutes you will have to leave and the door will close. Therefore, make use of the opportunity, but don’t forget what is essential…”

     Upon entering the cavern this person found great riches. Fascinated by the gold, he set the child on the floor and began anxiously collecting all he could. The time being up, the man, laden with gold and precious stones, ran towards the outside, and the door closed. It was then that he remembered that the child was still inside, and now the door was closed. The riches lasted but a short time; the despair lasted forever.

     The same happens to us at times. We focus on so many things: work, responsibilities, daily cares, and our expectations, so much so that we leave the interests, desires and wishes of our children abandoned in the caverns of misunderstanding. That’s how we squander our time here, leaving what is essential by the wayside: The treasures of the soul! We live in a world full of problems, anguish, corruption, and injustices, where each day children die or have to work in order to live. Don’t forget the essential. Practice sincere expressions of love toward the most vulnerable, toward our loved ones. Don’t leave them behind and forgotten in the cavern.

Prayer:  My gracious God, I seem to hear your voice, every day reminding me about what is truly important. I go through life worrying about material things. Forgive me and help me to preserve the essential treasures, those of the soul. Amen.

TESOROS DEL ALMA

LUCAS 12:32-34

“Porque donde está vuestro tesoro,

allí estará también vuestro corazón”

Se cuenta que una persona muy pobre con un niño en los brazos, pasó delante de una caverna y escuchó una voz misteriosa que desde adentro le decía: "Entra y toma todo lo que desees, pero no te olvides de lo principal. Después de unos minutos, tendrás que salir y la puerta se cerrará. Por lo tanto, aprovecha la oportunidad, pero no te olvides de lo principal....."Al entrar en la caverna, esta persona encontró muchas riquezas. Fascinada por el oro, puso al niño en el piso y empezó a juntar, ansiosamente, todo lo que podía. Agotado el tiempo, el hombre cargado de oro y piedras preciosas, corrió hacia fuera de la caverna y la puerta se cerró... recordó, entonces, que el niño quedó allá y la puerta ya estaba cerrada. La riqueza duró poco y la desesperación, siempre.”

Lo mismo nos ocurre, a veces. Nos concentramos en tantas cosas: el trabajo, las responsabilidades cotidianas, nuestras expectativas... que dejamos los intereses, deseos y anhelos de nuestros niños y niñas, abandonados en las cavernas de la incomprensión.  Así agotamos nuestro tiempo aquí, y dejamos a un lado lo esencial: ¡Los tesoros del alma! Vivimos en un mundo lleno de problemas, angustias, corrupción, injusticias, donde cada día mueren niños, o tienen que trabajar para vivir. No nos olvidemos de lo principal. Tengamos gestos concretos de amor hacia los más vulnerables, hacia nuestros seres queridos. No dejemos esto olvidado en la caverna.

Oración: Mi buen Dios, me parece oír tu voz recordándome todos los días lo que verdaderamente es importante. Se me pasa la vida preocupándome por lo material.  Perdóname y ayúdame a conservar los principales tesoros, los del alma. Amén.
