THE GOOD SHEPHERD

JOHN 10:1-9

...and his sheep follow him because they know his voice…

John 10:4

I have a five-year-old little girl who recently asked me: How can God respond to my request when so many other people are surely asking him for so many things?

I explained it to her using the following story that I once read: There were once several mothers with their newborn infants at one house. The mothers were eagerly chatting until one of the babies began to cry.  His mother immediately got up and said: “That’s my son. I’m going to see what’s wrong with him.” 

We may wonder how that mother was able to recognize the cry of her little one from among so many babies. Well, that’s the same relationship that God has with us, close and intimate.  God knows each of his sons and daughters and is constantly attentive to our needs, like a mother with her children.

When Jesus said: I am the good shepherd and I know my sheep…, he is telling us that his love for us is like that of a mother for her children.  If we follow him, we will always be safe, and if we wander off and get into trouble, He will look for us until He finds us.

We give thanks to the Shepherd in whom we can trust, certain that He will always be watching over us, his sheep.

Prayer: Loving God, grant that we may always be willing to follow the voice of our good shepherd, Jesus.  Enable us to be able to recognize and hear your voice like little ones do with their parents. Amen.

EL BUEN PASTOR

JUAN  10: 1-9

...y las ovejas le siguen, porque conocen su voz…

Juan 10:4

Tengo una niña de cinco años que recientemente me preguntó: ¿Cómo es posible que Dios responda a mi pedido entre tanta gente que seguramente le pide tantas cosas?

Le expliqué con la siguiente historia que una vez leí: En cierta ocasión, había varias madres con sus niños recién nacidos en una casa. Las madres conversaban animadamente hasta que uno de los niños lloró. Enseguida su mamá se levantó y dijo: “es mi niño voy a ver que tiene”. Podemos preguntarnos ¿cómo esa madre reconoce entre tantos niños, el llanto de su pequeño? Bueno, esa es la misma relación que Dios tiene con nosotros, cercana e íntima. Dios conoce a cada uno de sus hijos e hijas y permanece atento a nuestras necesidades como una madre a sus hijos.

Cuando Jesús dijo: yo soy el buen pastor y conozco mis ovejas…, nos está diciendo que su amor por nosotros es como el de una madre por sus hijos. Si le seguimos, estaremos siempre seguros, y si nos descarriamos y vamos por caminos torcidos, Él nos busca hasta encontrarnos.

Gracias damos al Pastor en quien hemos confiado, seguros de que estará siempre velando por nosotros, sus ovejas.

Oración: Dios amoroso, permite que siempre estemos dispuestos a seguir la voz de nuestro buen pastor: Jesús.  Capacítanos para poder reconocer y escuchar tu voz como lo hacen los pequeños con sus padres. Amén
