OUR APPOINTMENT WITH THE LORD

PSALM 63

Now during those days he (Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray;

and he spent the night in prayer to God.

Luke 6:12

Prayer is a fundamental activity in our Christian life. It is the communication which we establish with God in order to pray to God, to present God with our needs, and to give thanks to God. To have communication with the sovereign God, who is at the same time the God of love, is the highest privilege for which a human being can hope.

Other activities will be results of how we conduct our prayer life. We believe our spiritual life is fine because of the other things that we carry out, but it is easier to preach than to pray, easier to help our neighbor than to pray. I say this because it’s true.

Let’s appreciate those moments of privilege in God’s company, and let’s not fail to show up for God’s call to be connected to him. It could be at any time or place, mornings, afternoons, evenings . . . .  The important thing to recognize is that prayer time each day is sacred and inviolable, and that in it we receive the strength and the wisdom necessary to fulfill our tasks during the course of the day.

Prayer: Forgive us, God, for the speed with which we run our lives, without setting aside even one minute to be in communion with you. May this Advent time allow us to learn the need to dedicate some sincere time to you each day.  Amen.

SALMO 63

En aquellos días, él (Jesús) fue al monte a orar,

y pasó la noche orando a Dios

Lucas 6:12

La oración es una actividad fundamental en nuestra vida cristiana. Es la comunicación que establecemos con Dios para adorarle, presentarle nuestras necesidades y darle gracias. Tener comunicación con el Dios soberano, que es a la vez un Dios de amor, es el privilegio más elevado que un ser humano puede esperar.

Las demás actividades serán resultados de cómo llevemos nuestra vida de oración. Creemos que nuestra vida espiritual está bien, porque realizamos otras actividades, pero es más fácil predicar que orar, es más fácil ayudar al prójimo que orar; digo, cuando la oración es verdadera.

Sepamos apreciar esos privilegiados momentos en su compañía y no dejemos  de acudir al llamado que nos hace Dios para comunicarnos con él. Puede ser en cualquier tiempo y lugar, en las mañanas, en las tardes en las noches… lo importante es reconocer que ese tiempo de oración cada día es sagrado e inviolable y en él recibiremos las fuerzas y la sabiduría necesarias para cumplir con nuestras tareas en el curso del día.

Oración:  Perdónanos Dios, por la rapidez con que vivimos nuestras vidas, sin reservarnos ni un momento para estar en comunión contigo. Que este tiempo de Adviento nos permita entender lo necesario que es dedicarte unos sinceros minutos del día. Amén.
