THE FACE OF GOD

MATTHEW 25: 34-45

And the king will answer them,

 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,

you did it to me.'

Matthew 25: 40

I asked about a friend today whom I had not seen in a very long time and was surprised by the news that she is suffering from an addiction, specifically alcoholism. I feel very sorry and greatly responsible. Jesus calls us to care for the most vulnerable. We often live our lives focused on our affairs and those of our close family, and show our compassion with a prayer for the sick from time to time.

But Jesus calls us to do more. Praying is important, but we must visit, clothe, feed, and in this agenda, 'the least' of God’s own take priority. God calls us to do this not in the hope of being absolved of judgment, but simply because it is right and necessary. It is in our hands to alleviate suffering, to offer hope, to share the good news of Jesus Christ; let us do it now and not when we are surprised to see those ‘little ones belonging to God’ in our daily lives.

May we be able to see God’s face in each face that suffers and needs us!

Prayer: Forgive us, God of mercy, when we do not share in another's pain or when the routine of our lives doesn’t allow us to be compassionate and to share your love. Help us to reach out our hands to those “least,” to those for whom you call us to care. In the name of Jesus our truth and our way. Amen.

Y respondiendo el rey les dirá: De cierto os digo que

en cuanto lo hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos

más pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis

Hoy he preguntado por una amiga a la que hace mucho tiempo no veía y me ha sorprendido la noticia de que está padeciendo una adicción, concretamente el alcoholismo. Sentí mucha pena y mucha responsabilidad. Jesús nos llama a preocuparnos por los más vulnerables. Muchas veces vivimos nuestra vida centrados en nuestros asuntos y los de nuestra familia allegada y mostramos nuestra acción compasiva con una oración por los enfermos de vez en cuando. Pero Jesús nos llama a hacer algo más. Orar es importante, pero hay que visitar, abrigar, alimentar y en esta agenda los pequeñitos de Dios tienen prioridad. Dios nos llama a hacer esto no para esperar ser absueltos de algún juicio, sino porque es justo y necesario.

Está en nuestras manos aliviar sufrimientos, brindar esperanza, compartir la buena noticia de Jesucristo, hagámoslo ahora y no cuando nos extrañe dejar de ver a esos pequeñitos en nuestra vida cotidiana.

¡Qué podamos ver el rostro de Dios en cada rostro que sufre y nos necesita!

Oración: Perdónanos Dios de misericordia, cuando no sufrimos por el dolor ajeno, o cuando la rutina de nuestras vidas no nos permite ser compasivos y compartir tu amor. Ayúdanos a extender nuestras manos a esos pequeñitos, a los cuales nos llamas a atender. Por Jesús, nuestra verdad y camino, amén
