SERVANT OF ALL
MARK  9:33-35

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Mark 9:35

It is true that on many occasions our criteria do not coincide with those of Jesus.  It would be very strange for us to think that the most important people are those who appear to be “the last” because they live in the service of others.

Generally speaking, important people are considered to be those with prestige, who are sure of themselves, who have obtained success in some part of their lives, who stand out and have achieved some recognition.  According to Jesus’ criteria, many thousands of anonymous women and men are important: those whose faces are unrecognizable, who live out their lives in simple and selfless service to others, and who do not receive anyone’s homage. They are men and women who do not live for their own personal success, but who rather worry about the happiness of others.  Their lives are a testimony of sacrifice and altruism.

These persons often seem to be the last but for God they are the first.  Their lives of love and service are valuable even if we don’t attempt to experience them.

Prayer: Eternal God, penetrate our hearts and grant that we may someday do what Jesus said. May we forget about wanting to be first and may we instead become servants of all. Amen.

SERVIDOR DE TODOS
MARCOS  9:33-35
