A GOOD ADHESIVE

JOHN 13:31-35

I give you a new commandment: love one another.  

John 13:34

A family wanted to travel by train during vacation, and the station from which they needed to depart was filled with people walking about this way and that. Upon arriving at the station the father told his family that he would go and buy the tickets, and asked that they remain close to one another, just where they were, so that he could find them again when he returned.

Given the enthusiasm and curiosity of their sons, the mother had to pull them to the side saying, “Stay glued together right here until Poppa returns.” The children paid attention, because it was evident that if they did not, one or the other of them could get lost in the middle of the crowd.

This story that I read some time ago made me think about the commandment Jesus left his disciples in John 13: 34. It’s a commandment for us today as well. Every one of our daily actions should be subject to the “glue” of love, an adhesive which not only keeps us together, but also, because of it we can enjoy God’s harmony. Apply the glue of love; it’s the divine way for us to be joined together with one another and with Him.

Prayer: God of love, give us more faith and love to be conscious of your presence in the good and in the bad days. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

JUAN 13:31-35

Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: que os améis unos a otros.

Una  familia quería viajar en tren durante las vacaciones y la estación de la que tenían que salir estaba llena de gente caminando de un lado a otro. Al llegar a la terminal el padre les dijo que iría a comprar los pasajes y les pidió que se mantuvieran bien pegaditos para poderlos encontrar a su regreso. Debido al entusiasmo y curiosidad de los hijos, la madre temía que se apartasen de ella, así que antes de salir el padre le recalcó a los hijos: “Estemos juntos bien pegaditos hasta que vuelva papá”. Los niños le hicieron caso porque era evidente que si no se quedaban juntos, cualquiera de ellos se podía perder en medio de la multitud.

Esta historia que leí hace algún tiempo, me hizo pensar en el mandamiento que Jesús deja a sus discípulos y discípulas en Juan 13.34. Es un mandamiento también para nosotros hoy.

Cada una de nuestras acciones diarias deben estar sujetas con el “pegamento” del amor, un pegamento que nos hace no solo estar juntos y convivir, sino disfrutar la armonía de Dios.

Aplicar el pegamento del amor, es la manera divina de que estemos unidos con otros y con Él.

Oración: Dios de amor, danos más fe y amor para estar conscientes de tu presencia en los días buenos y malos. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.
