OCCUPIED IN PRAYER

JAMES 5:13-16

All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women,

I have had the opportunity to pray; I’ve even felt the desire to do it. Nevertheless, many of these times I’ve only murmured expressions that I really consider vain; I’ve not experienced real communion with the Father, nor have I established dialogue. How easy it is to define prayer as talking with God, but how difficult to achieve “conversation.”

It is said, and it’s no less true, that one can pray in any place or circumstance and manner, but how necessary private prayer is, as Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. He himself withdrew to the Mount of Olives to spend the night praying, and the more he prayed, the more he was strengthened in his mission. The Bible gives us multiple examples of this.

For my part, I am convinced that prayer requires training, the discipline of an athlete, if we are to obtain high yields. We often hear the cry of Churches for a revival, but that revival will only come if each one of us, as in the early church, remain united in prayer, persevering in it. Only in communion with God will we find the power of the Spirit for which we cry out.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to pray. We want to be in communion with you through prayer. Amen.

OCUPADO EN LA ORACIÓN

SANTIAGO 5:13-16

Todos ellos se reunían siempre para orar con algunas mujeres,

con María, la madre de Jesús, y con sus hermanos…

He tenido la posibilidad de orar, incluso he sentido el deseo de hacerlo y sin embargo, en muchas de esas ocasiones sólo he murmurado unas frases que realmente considero vanas, no he experimentado una verdadera comunión con el Padre, no he logrado establecer el diálogo.  Cuan fácilmente definimos la oración como hablar con Dios, pero cuan difícilmente logramos esa “conversación”.

Se dice, y no es menos cierto, que uno puede orar en cualquier lugar y circunstancia y de cualquier forma, pero cuán necesaria es la oración privada, en secreto, como lo dijera Jesús en el Sermón del Monte. Él mismo se retiraba al Monte de los Olivos a pasar las noches orando y cuanto más oraba, más fortalecido estaba en su misión. La Biblia da ejemplo de ello en múltiples ocasiones.

Por mi parte estoy convencido que la oración requiere entrenamiento, una disciplina de atleta si queremos obtener altos rendimientos. Muchas veces escuchamos el clamor de las Iglesias por un avivamiento, pero ese avivamiento sólo llegará en la medida en que cada uno de nosotros, como en la Iglesia Primitiva, nos mantengamos unánimes en la oración, perseverando en ella. Sólo en la comunión con Dios encontramos el poder del Espíritu por el cual clamamos.

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a orar. Queremos estar en comunión contigo a través de la oración  Amén.
