       CALM AMID THE STORMS

HABAKKUK 2

For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
it speaks to the end
and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
it will certainly come
and will not delay. (NIV)

Habakkuk 2:3

Although he lived in precarious conditions, threatened by wars, oppression, and extreme contempt for human life, the prophet Habakkuk received a vision from God that he would reorder things so they would have a secure life.

It is often hard to remain calm amid the trials and problems we may have. Difficult situations test our faith and our ability to concentrate on things objectively because we are so stressed out by fear or panic that we don’t know what to do. We become impatient and nervous. Many people in these cases feel the need to take medication to cope with these difficulties to achieve calm and rest.

The ancient words of the prophet are still relevant for us today, whatever the situation that may confront us. Their gist speaks to us of God’s promises that are fulfilled, and although everything we see tells us otherwise, he promises and keeps it. He does it for those who don’t lose patience and entrust their lives to his care.

Prayer: Holy Jesus, thank you for bringing us the words of your devoted prophet. Help us to find in them the reassurance that you are a faithful God for those who trust in you. Amen.

       CALMA EN MEDIO DE LAS TORMENTAS

HABACUC 2

Pues la visión se realizará en el tiempo señalado; marcha hacia su cumplimiento, y no dejará de cumplirse. Aunque parezca tardar, espérala; porque sin falta vendrá.

Habacuc 2:3

A pesar de vivir en precarias condiciones, amenazados por guerras, opresión, desprecio extremo por la vida humana, el profeta Habacuc recibe de Dios la visión de que Él recompondría las cosas a fin de que tengan una existencia segura.

Muchas veces es difícil, en medio de las pruebas y los problemas que podamos tener, mantener la calma. Las situaciones difíciles ponen a prueba nuestra fe, nuestra capacidad de ver las cosas con objetividad y concentración, pues el miedo o el pánico nos estresan y somos incapaces de saber qué hacer. Nos ponemos impacientes, nerviosos. Muchas personas en estos casos consideran que hasta es eficaz tomar medicamentos para sortear estas dificultades a fin de que nos den calma y descanso.

Las antiguas palabras del profeta tienen aún hoy sentido para nosotros, sea cual fuere la situación en que nos encontremos. El núcleo de las mismas nos quiere hablar de promesas hechas por Dios que se cumplen, y que aunque todo al alcance de nuestra visión nos diga otra cosa, Él promete y cumple. Él hace y otorga a aquellos que no pierden su paciencia y depositan su vida a su cuidado.

Oración: Jesús divino, gracias por acercarnos las palabras de tu devoto profeta. Permítenos rescatar hoy de estás la seguridad de saber que tú eres un Dios fiel para con aquellos que en ti confían. Amén.
