THOSE WHO WOULD BE SAVED

ACTS 2:43-47

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves,

it is the gift of God.   (NIV)

The church neither saves nor condemns. This is the exclusive power of God; the rest are vain aspirations. Many people think that the church is a social conglomeration, a group where everyone thinks the same; an entity of support and solidarity with the most dispossessed, or in the worst case, a center of catharsis and of psychiatric orientation. All this is fine, but it’s not the church.

St. Cyprian, a Christian martyr, affirms that, “outside of the church there is no salvation.”

Today we cannot figure out what’s meant by the affirmation of that consecrated Christian, but yes, we’re sure that it didn’t refer to the characteristics we’ve already cited.

His affirmation was free of denominational and sectarian prejudices, of condemnatory affirmations that cloud or eclipse the forgiveness and love of God, and much freer of prophetic apocalyptic expressions of the destruction of the world and human life.

The church was one, it is one, and it will continue to be one. A clear understanding of how much the church of the Lord means to us will make us eager to understand the message of the book of Acts: “...those who unite with the called to be saved.”

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the church, the earthly journey towards eternal salvation. Amen.

LOS QUE HABRÍAN DE SER SALVOS   

HECHOS 2:43-47

Por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe,

y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios                                                            

                                                                             

Efesios 2:8

La Iglesia ni salva ni condena, esa es potestad exclusiva de Dios, lo demás son aspiraciones vanas.

Muchos piensan que la Iglesia es un conglomerado social, una agrupación donde todos piensan más o menos igual; una entidad de ayuda y solidaridad con los más desposeídos; o en el peor de los casos, un centro de catarsis y orientación psiquiátrica. Todo esto es bueno, pero no es la Iglesia.

San Cipriano, mártir del cristianismo, afirmaba que: “fuera de la Iglesia no hay salvación”.

Hoy no podemos determinar qué se entiende de la afirmación de aquel consagrado cristiano; pero sí estamos seguros de que no se refería a las características que hemos citado antes.

Su afirmación estaba libre de prejuicios denominacionales y sectarios; de afirmaciones condenatorias que opacan o eclipsan el perdón y amor de Dios; y mucho más libre de expresiones armagedónicas agoreras de la destrucción del mundo y el ser humano.

La Iglesia era una, es una y seguirá siendo una. Una comprensión clara de cuánto significa para nosotros la Iglesia del Señor, nos hará aptos para entender el mensaje del libro de Los Hechos: “…aquella a la cual se unen los llamados a ser salvos”.

Oración: Gracias, Señor, por la Iglesia, camino terrenal hacia la salvación eterna. Amén.
