THE SHARED MIRACLE 

 PSALM 37:3-6

Trust in the Lord and do good;

Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.   (NIV)

Aladdin is a character in the well-known work A Thousand and One Nights. The account relates that its protagonist traveled to the center of the earth in search of a lamp, which, with the help of a genie, would make his most incredible desires come true.

But our world does not present us with the challenge of The Thousand and One Nights, rather of thousands of years, each one with 365 nights and corresponding days. We often feel the temptation of establishing our relationships with God at the level of Aladdin, the genie and the marvelous lamp. We pray, and we leave the miracle to him.

Psalm 37 has a combination of ideas that we at times do not understand: “… Hope in the Lord and do good.” Generally, we fix our attention on the first part of verse three and retreat to a second plane for the rest.

But the status of these invitations that appear in the biblical text is the same. One cannot trust in the Lord’s assistance if we cannot do well by doing our part.

Don’t forget that we are not Aladdin, nor is Jesus the marvelous lamp. The miracle is shared. Let us ask ourselves: to what point are we witnesses of God so that others can trust and do good?

Prayer: Lord, make us instruments of your peace and love. Enable us to co-participate in your project of full life. Amen.

EL MILAGRO COMPARTIDO 

 SALMO 37:3-6

Confía en Jehová, y haz el bien;

Y habitarás en la tierra,

y te apacentarás de la verdad                                                                                                

Salmo 37:3

Aladino es un personaje de la conocida obra “Las mil y una noche”. La narración relata que su protagonista viajó al centro de la tierra en busca de una lámpara, que, con ayuda de un genio, le haría capaz de lograr sus más increíbles deseos.

Pero el mundo nuestro no nos plantea el reto de “Las mil y una noche”, sino de miles de años, cada uno con 365 noches y sus correspondientes días. No son pocas las veces que sentimos la tentación de establecer nuestras relaciones con Dios al nivel de Aladino, el genio y la lámpara maravillosa. Oramos, y le dejamos a Él que haga el milagro.

El Salmo 37 tiene una combinación de ideas que a veces no entendemos: ¨…espera en el Señor y haz el bien”.  Por lo general nos quedamos con la primera parte del versículo 3 y replegamos a un segundo plano el resto.

Pero el estatus de estas invitaciones que aparecen el en texto bíblico es el mismo. No se puede confiar en la ayuda del Señor, si no somos capaces de hacer el bien, o sea, nuestra parte.

No olvidemos que no somos Aladino, ni que Jesús es la lámpara maravillosa. El milagro es compartido.

Preguntémonos ¿Hasta dónde somos testigos de Dios para que otros confíen y hagan el bien?

Oración: Señor, haznos instrumentos de tu paz y amor. Permite que podamos coparticipar de tu proyecto de vida plena. Amén.
