FAITHFUL IN SHARING

ACTS 2:41–47

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship,

to the breaking of bread and the prayers. (NRSV)

Acts 2:42

The Bible tells us that the first Christian communities were distinguished by their witness to faith and the act of sharing all that they had. These communities were like families who felt the need to get together every day breaking bread and eating together. Faith and the commitment acquired in having chosen Jesus and his plan for salvation allowed them to continue remembering his presence with them, not only in the breaking of bread, but in eating together, being together, consoling each other, strengthening each other and celebrating. All this they did with joy and simplicity of heart.

How near or far are we from these communities? Is our faithfulness to Jesus’ work so great that we feel the need to share everything?

Let’s always try to practice faithfulness to the teachings of God and to our Reformed tradition: to cultivate coexistence, unity, sharing, joy and simplicity. Let’s celebrate, praising and giving thanks to God for everything. Let’s live our faith like a true witness of love, committed to God just like the first communities.

The Lord continues every day to invite us to follow him, expects our faithful, selfless and constant commitment to continue to act and share in this world which so greatly needs us.

Prayer: Holy God, encourage us so that we may continue to be faithful to your Son, to his teachings, and that in the practice of this faith, we may give birth to the commitment to share everything you have given us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

FIELES PARA COMPARTIR

HECHOS 2:41–47

Y eran fieles en conservar la enseñanza de los apóstoles,

en compartir lo que tenían, en reunirse

para partir el pan y en la oración.

Hechos 2:42

La Biblia nos cuenta que las primeras comunidades cristianas se distinguían por su testimonio de fidelidad y el hecho de compartir todo lo que tenían. Estas comunidades eran como familias que sentían el deseo de reunirse todos los días; partían el pan y comían juntos. La fidelidad y el compromiso adquirido por haber optado por Jesús y su plan de salvación, hizo que continuaran rememorando su presencia junto a ellos, que no se quedaran solamente en el partir el pan, sino que comieran juntos, que se acompañaran, que se consolaran, se fortalecieran, que celebraran; y todo esto lo hacían con alegría y sencillez de corazón.

¿Cuán cerca o lejos estamos de estas comunidades? ¿Qué tan grande es nuestra fidelidad al proyecto de Jesús, que sintamos la necesidad de compartirlo todo?

Intentemos practicar siempre la fidelidad a las enseñanzas de Dios y a nuestra tradición reformada; cultivemos la convivencia, la unidad, el compartir, la alegría y la sencillez. Celebremos alabando y dando gracias por todo. Vivamos nuestra fe como un verdadero evangelio de amor, comprometidos con Dios, tal y como lo hicieron las primeras comunidades. El Señor nos continúa invitando todos los días a seguirle, espera nuestro compromiso fiel, desinteresado y constante para poder continuar actuando y compartiendo en este mundo que tanto necesita de nosotros.

Oración: Anímanos, Dios Santo, para poder seguir siendo fieles a tu Hijo, a sus enseñanzas; y que en la práctica de esa fidelidad nazca el compromiso de compartir todo cuanto nos has regalado. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.
