THE POWER TO LOVE

JOHN 20:1-10

Love one another

John 13:34

Is this too much to ask?  For us, yes, it’s too much. The kind of love to which Jesus calls us is far beyond our human capacity. Our inclination to jealousy, pettiness, greediness and vengeance impedes us from completely opening our hearts to others, and from putting their wellbeing before our own.

Jesus knew it. He knew our limitations and weaknesses, including while he demonstrated his love for us by dying and resuscitating from among the dead, to assure, finally, that those who believed in Him will have eternal life. Nevertheless, our faith in Him assures more than eternal life. It assures the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives as well; and the Holy Spirit brings us the capacity to love others, as Jesus commanded us.

By our own strength we cannot love others; but we can love them through the infinite power of the Spirit. The Spirit works in us to help us to overcome our negative attitudes and an egocentric mentality. The Spirit helps us to experience Jesus’ love in a way that changes our lives so that we can share that love with others.

Prayer:  Thank you, my good God, for your infinite power and love reflected in the Resurrection. I ask that you fill me with love so that I can express that love to others. Amen.

Que os améis unos a otros

¿Era esto pedir demasiado? Sí, para nosotros, es demasiado. El tipo de amor al que Jesús nos llama está más allá de nuestras capacidades humanas. Nuestra inclinación a los celos, la mezquindad, la envidia y la venganza nos impide abrir completamente el corazón a otros y poner su bienestar por encima del nuestro.

Jesús lo sabía. Él conocía nuestras limitaciones y debilidades, incluso mientras demostraba su amor por nosotros muriendo y resucitando de entre los muertos, a fin de asegurar que aquellos que creen en Él vivirán para siempre. Sin embargo, nuestra fe en Él asegura más que la vida terrena. También asegura la presencia del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas. Y el Espíritu Santo nos trae la capacidad de amar a los demás como Jesús nos manda.

No podemos amar a los demás con nuestras propias fuerzas, pero podemos amarlos a través del poder infinito del Espíritu.

El Espíritu Santo obra en nosotros para ayudarnos a superar nuestras actitudes negativas y nuestra mentalidad egocéntrica. Nos ayuda a experimentar el amor de Jesús de una manera que cambia la vida para que podamos compartir ese amor con los demás.

Oración: Gracias mi buen Dios, por tu infinito poder y amor reflejado en la resurrección. Te pido que me llenes de amor para poder expresar ese amor a los demás. Amén.
