FOR OUR PASTORS

HEBREWS 13:7-17

Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you…(NRSV)

Hebrews 13:7

The person with a pastoral vocation has been called by God and filled with his Spirit to undertake this task seriously. They thus acknowledge that they have been entrusted with the overwhelming responsibility of shepherding the flock and watching over the inheritance of God. But all too frequently the immensity of this task is not appreciated by others.

Although the pastor does not seek human applause, they need the encouragement of those who are helped by their ministry. The assuredness of prayer, a word of encouragement for their faithful presentation of the Word, some help with their duties, an expression of appreciation for their selfless service, all this – What encouragement it would give!

Stop and think for a minute about all the holy influences that have touched your life in these past years. It’s likely that well up on this list are pastors, Christian leaders and Sunday School teachers who have contributed to your spiritual well-being. To be sure, none of our leaders is perfect; no human being is. But let’s think of the times that they have been – close or far away – supporting us with their prayers or words of encouragement, their reflection on the Word, leading the programs of the Church with their wisdom and vision. Possibly your pastor today would benefit from the warmth of a word of encouragement.

Prayer: Lord, we pray today for our pastors. Bless and accompany them in their beautiful work. Be with their families and their congregations as well. Amen.

Acuérdense de quienes los han dirigido…

Hebreos 13:7

La persona con vocación pastoral ha sido llamada por Dios y llena de su Espíritu para tomar en serio esta tarea. Reconoce así que se le ha confiado la abrumadora responsabilidad de apacentar el rebaño y de vigilar sobre la herencia de Dios. Pero con demasiada frecuencia lo inmenso de esta tarea no es apreciado por los demás. Aunque no desea el aplauso de los seres humanos, precisa del aliento de los que son ayudados por su ministerio. La seguridad de la oración, una palabra de aliento por su fiel presentación de la Palabra, una ayuda en sus deberes, una expresión de aprecio por su servicio abnegado. Todo esto ¡Cuánto aliento le daría!

Detente y reflexiona por un minuto en todas las influencias santas que han tocado tu vida durante los años pasados. Es probable que bien en lo alto de esta lista estén pastores, líderes cristianos y maestros de la Escuela Dominical que han contribuido a tu beneficio espiritual. Por supuesto que ninguno de nuestros líderes es perfecto. En realidad, ningún ser humano lo es. Pero pensemos en las veces que ha estado desde cerca o lejos apoyándonos con sus oraciones o frases de aliento, su reflexión de la Palabra, liderando los programas de la iglesia desde su sabiduría y visión. Posiblemente tu pastor o pastora podría recibir hoy el calor de una palabra de aliento.

Oración: Hoy oramos Señor, por nuestros pastores y pastoras. Bendícelos y acompáñalos en su hermosa tarea. Acompaña también a sus familias y a sus congregaciones. Amén.
