Ecumenical Prayer Day for Children

THEY ARE THE PRESENT

LUKE 18: 15-17

“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive

The kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”(NIV)

Luke 18:17

I am struck by how we as adults consider childhood to be a stage of life that represents the future, “the future of a family,” or “the future of a nation.” Jesus always considered boys and girls to be the present. When he said: “anyone who will not receive… like a little child,” he was referring to the present time. Jesus loved to be surrounded by boys and girls, whether unruly or calm, extroverted or timid. He loved to hug them and bless them. It was a wonderful exchange of energy (v15-16).

It is true that boys and girls still have much to learn on the road of life, but we should be aware that we as adults are always still learning. Even though our characters are already formed, we should always be open to learning something new, as the Master did, and in this regard, we have much to learn from boys and girls.

Let’s stop treating them as incomplete human beings and be sensitive to learn from them and to teach them the sacred things that we have learned from our elders. We must eschew violence, intolerance, and mistreatment of them, and follow the Master’s invitation.

Prayer: Lord, help us to follow your example and enjoy being surrounded by boys and girls to drink from their fount of wisdom and to treat them with dignity and respect. Amen.

Día de Oración Ecuménica por la Niñez

SON EL PRESENTE

LUCAS 18: 15-17

De cierto os digo que el que no recibe

el reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él.

Lucas  18:17

Me llama la atención la manera en la que nosotros, los adultos, concebimos la niñez como esa etapa de la vida que representa el futuro, “el futuro de una familia”, “el futuro de una nación” … Jesús siempre trató a los niños y a las niñas como el presente. Cuando dijo: “el que no recibe… como un niño”, se refería al tiempo presente. Jesús disfrutaba el estar rodeado de niños y niñas, no le importaba si eran inquietos o tranquilos, extrovertidos o tímidos. Él disfrutaba al abrazarlos y compartirles su bendición. Era un intercambio maravilloso de energía (v15-16).

Es verdad que las niñas y los niños, aún tienen mucho que aprender en el camino de la vida, pero debemos ser conscientes que también nosotros, los adultos, debemos transitar siempre los caminos del aprendizaje. Aún cuando tengamos nuestro carácter formado, debemos estar siempre abiertos a aprender algo nuevo, así como lo hacía el Maestro, y en ese camino debemos aprender mucho de las niñas y los niños.

Dejemos de tratarlos como a seres humanos incompletos, tengamos sensibilidad para aprender de ellos y también para enseñarles esas cosas sagradas que hemos aprendido de nuestros mayores. Desechemos la violencia, la intolerancia y el maltrato al tratar con ellos, más bien sigamos la invitación del Maestro.

Oración: Permite Señor, que sigamos tu ejemplo y disfrutemos el estar rodeado de niños y niñas para beber de su caudal de sabiduría y tratarlos con dignidad y respeto. Amén.
