SINCERE FAITH

 2 TIMOTHY 1:1-5

 I am reminded of your sincere faith. . .(NRSV)

   2 Timothy 1:5 a

People can appear to be what they are not. For example, many assume the title of Christian, and make a fine display on Sunday morning, but have the hollow sound of hypocrisy. Yes, a person can appear to be Christian but lack a genuine faith. When they are struck by a sudden temptation or when confronting a spiritual duty, the falsehood becomes evident. What appears spiritual turns out to be a thin varnish of religiosity without the reality of a genuine faith.

It wasn’t like that with Timothy. His faith was genuine, so real that Paul was filled with joy in thinking about it. What satisfaction must have filled Timothy’s heart when he read the encouraging words of the Apostle Paul! (2 Timothy 1:5).

Think again about this. Do you have a faith like Timothy’s? Does the faith you profess withstand God’s test?

Hoping in Christ and following his call is the basis of genuine faith.

Prayer: Lord, allow me to live a deep faith; remove the falsehoods from my life. Amen.

La gente puede parecer algo que no es. Por ejemplo, son muchos los que asumen el nombre de cristiano, y hacen una buena exhibición el domingo en la mañana, y, sin embargo, dan el sonido hueco de un hipócrita. Sí, una persona puede parecer cristiana, pero carecer de la fe genuina. Cuando son golpeados por una repentina tentación o al enfrentarse con un deber espiritual, la falsedad se hace evidente. Lo que parecía ser espiritual resulta ser una delgada capa de barniz religioso sin la realidad de la fe genuina.

No era así con Timoteo. Su fe era genuina, tan real, que Pablo estaba lleno de gozo al pensar en ella. ¡Qué satisfacción debe haber llenado el corazón de Timoteo al leer las alentadoras palabras del Apóstol Pablo! (2 Timoteo 1:5).

Piensa otra vez en esto. ¿Tienes una fe como la de Timoteo? ¿Soporta el examen de Dios la fe que profesas?

Esperar en Cristo y seguir su llamado es la base de la fe genuina.
