GOD SPEAKS. LISTEN

PSALM 50:1-23

Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel,

 I will testify against you. I am God, your God. (NRSV)

Psalm 50:7

            The key to having a time of prayer or of productive Bible study, whether as an individual or in a group, is listening. Psalm 50 emphasizes the importance of listening to God. How can we build that into our daily devotional time?

            We can begin with these words when we talk with God: “Father, I want to know what you wish to tell me today. When I read your Word, bring to my mind the things that you wish for me to hear.” We can read, and if necessary, reread the passage and mark what catches our attention. If we can’t understand it, we can say: “Lord, I’m not certain that I heard what you want to tell me. Please open my mind to grasp your message.”

            Then let’s talk with God about what we have learned.

            Many people read the Bible and then pray for something that has nothing to do with what they just read. Nothing could be ruder. We wouldn’t treat a friend like that. If a friend tells us something, we respond; therefore, if God says something to us through the Bible, we should respond to what he is saying.

Prayer: Thank you, God, that we don’t have to guess what you want to tell us because you always speak to us through your Word. Bless our efforts to hear you in our daily devotions and always. Amen.

SALMO 50:1-23

Oye, pueblo mío, y hablaré; escucha Israel,

y testificaré contra ti. Yo soy Dios, el Dios tuyo.

Salmo 50:7

La clave para tener un tiempo de oración o estudio de la Biblia productivo ya sea individual o en grupo, es escuchar. El salmo 50 enfatiza la importancia de escuchar a Dios. ¿Cómo podemos incorporar eso a nuestro tiempo devocional diario?

Podemos comenzar con estas palabras cuando hablemos con Dios: “Padre, deseo saber lo que quieres decirme en este día. Al leer tu Palabra, trae a mi mente las cosas que quieres que escuche.”

Podemos leer y si es necesario, releer el pasaje y señalar lo que más nos llame la atención; y si no entendemos podemos decir: “Señor, no estoy seguro si entendí lo que me quieres decir. Por favor, abre mi mente para captar tu mensaje.”

Luego hablemos con Dios de lo que hemos aprendido.

Muchas personas leen la Biblia y después oran por algo que no tiene relación alguna con lo que leyeron. Nada podría ser más descortés. No trataríamos así a un amigo. Si un amigo nos dice algo, le respondemos; por tanto, si Dios nos habla a través de la Biblia, deberíamos responderle a lo que está diciendo.

Oración: Gracias Dios, porque no tenemos que adivinar lo que nos quieres decir, pues siempre nos hablas a través de tu Palabra. Bendice nuestros esfuerzos por escucharte en el tiempo devocional diario y en todo momento. Amén.
