LET’S GET GOING

DEUTERONOMY 2:16-25

The Israelites, having escaped slavery in Egypt, were finally arriving at their destination, the land that God had promised them and where they would live permanently. After a great deal of walking through the desert they were exhausted and dispirited.

As a community we too often find ourselves in the desert.  We don’t recognize where we’ve stopped, and we confront situations that we don’t know how to resolve. Like the Israelites, we are stalled, lamenting the past and present, and without a very clear future.

What do the words “Get going!”  mean to us today? Toward where or what are we moving?

We find the answer in the Gospels: toward the Kingdom of God, which is the Good News our Lord Jesus Christ preached and practiced. To get up and get going in the direction of God’s Kingdom is the constant invitation and challenge we receive from Him. It’s the same invitation the Israelites received.

We know it’s not easy, as it wasn’t for them either.  There are many difficulties; we’re often paralyzed, lose faith, day to day worries oppress us, as well as individual and societal sufferings and pains. But if we have trust and hope that God is always at our side, accompanying and guiding us like our ancestors, then we too can stand up and little by little begin to walk the way of the Kingdom.

Prayer:  we ask today, Lord, more than ever, that you raise our fallen strengths to put us in march toward your eternal Kingdom of love. In the name of your beloved Son, amen.

PONGÁMONOS EN MARCHA

DEUTERONOMIO 2:16-25

“¡Vamos!”  Dijo el Señor, “¡Pónganse en marcha!”

Deuteronomio 2:24

El pueblo de Israel, que había salido de la esclavitud en Egipto, estaba llegando a su destino final, a la tierra que Dios les había prometido y en la cual vivirían definitivamente. Después de mucho andar a través del desierto, estaban cansados y desanimados.

También nosotros como comunidad muchas veces nos encontramos en el desierto. No sabemos dónde estamos parados y nos enfrentamos a situaciones que no sabemos cómo resolver. Al igual que el pueblo de Israel, estamos detenidos lamentando el pasado y el presente y sin un futuro demasiado claro. ¿Qué significan hoy para nosotros estas palabras ¡Pónganse en marcha!

¿Hacia dónde o hacia qué nos ponemos en marcha?

La respuesta la encontramos en el evangelio: hacia el Reino de Dios que es la Buena Nueva que predicó y practicó nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Ponerse en marcha en dirección al Reino de Dios es la invitación y el desafío constante que recibimos de Él. Es la misma invitación que recibieron los israelitas.

Sabemos que no es fácil, como no lo fue para ellos tampoco. Hay muchas dificultades. Muchas veces nos paralizamos, nos falta la fe, nos agobian las preocupaciones del día a día y los sufrimientos y dolores individuales y sociales. Pero si tenemos la confianza y la esperanza de que Dios está siempre a nuestro lado, acompañándonos y guiándonos, como nuestros antepasados también nosotros podremos ponernos de pie y poco a poco comenzar a transitar el camino del Reino.

Oración: Hoy Señor, te pedimos más que nunca que levantes nuestras fuerzas caídas para ponernos en marcha hacia tu Reino eterno de amor. En el nombre de tu Hijo amado, amén.
