A NEW OPPORTUNITY
LUKE 13:1-9
He replied, “Sir,
let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it.
If it bears fruit next year, well and good;
but if not, you can cut it down.” (NRSV)
Luke 13:8-9
Although we may not bear fruit in our faith life, our God
always gives us a second chance.
Many of us with responsibilities in the church experience
times when we dream up and promote projects which seem impossible of bearing
fruit. But if God is in the center of our efforts and our aspirations, we will
no doubt see them bear fruit.
This is what today’s text is telling us, to keep trying, to
keep sowing, to keep turning over the earth, for it is God who will make the
fruits come at the right time. If we think about the disciples who began the
proclamation of the gospel where the whole environment was hostile to them, it
seems impossible that they could have produced such fruit.
I invite you to give yourself and others a new opportunity.
That is what God’s Word teaches us. And it is God in his mercy who gives us a
new opportunity, waiting patiently and calmly until we decide to bear fruit for
his redeeming work.
Prayer: Lord, I promise not to let my arms drop and to always try
again. Amen.

UNA NUEVA OPORTUNIDAD
LUCAS 13:1-9
El cuidador del viñedo contestó:
“Déjala todavía este año; voy a aflojarle la tierra y
a echarle abono. Con eso tal vez dará fruto; y si no, ya la cortarás”.

Aunque no fructifiquemos
en nuestra vida de fe, nuestro Dios siempre nos da una segunda oportunidad.
La experiencia de muchos
de nosotros, que tenemos responsabilidades en nuestras iglesias, es que en
ocasiones imaginamos e impulsamos proyectos que nos parecen imposibles de ver
fructificar. Pero, si Dios está en medio
de nuestros esfuerzos y anhelos, sin dudas los veremos fructificar.
De esto se nos habla en
el texto de hoy: de seguir intentándolo, de seguir sembrando, de seguir
removiendo la tierra ya que el mismo Dios es quien hará que en el momento
oportuno se recojan los frutos. Si pensamos en los discípulos y discípulas que
iniciaron la proclamación del evangelio con todo el entorno en contra, parece
imposible que hayan llegado tantos frutos.
Les invito a darse y a
dar a los demás una nueva oportunidad. Eso es lo que nos enseña la Palabra de
Dios. Y es Dios quien, en su misericordia, nos da una nueva oportunidad.
Esperando paciente y serenamente el momento que decidamos empezar a fructificar
para su obra redentora.
Oración: Señor, me comprometo a no bajar los brazos y a
volverlo a intentar siempre nuevamente. Amén.
