Wednesday, June 20 “HOW WILL I UNDERSTAND IF NO ONE TEACHES ME?” ACTS 8: 26-40

“HOW WILL I UNDERSTAND IF NO ONE TEACHES ME?”
ACTS 8: 26-40
The man replied, “Without someone to guide me,
how could I (understand)?”
Acts 8: 31a (CEB)
I propose that we reflect together on this story:

“They say an immigrant who went to the United States undertook a trip on foot to a specific town, walking along the railroad tracks, with his luggage on his back.  Since trains ran very often along this route, the station manager warned the man to get away from the rails.  The immigrant understood very little English, and he still thought he had the right to walk along the tracks, and to prove it, he took out of his pocket a first class ticket.  In his ignorance, he believed that the ticket was only good for walking along the tracks.”

Of course, in the first reading of this story we can question the immigrant, to say that he was illiterate, and that we are like him-- for “many times we don’t take advantage of the first class tickets that God has given us due to our lack of faith.”  But I ask you that we analyze this metaphor from another point of view.  Why did no one explain to this man how to use the ticket?  Why, if they knew he was a foreigner, did no one offer to accompany him?  Many times we complain that the people in our communities don’t get involved, don’t make a commitment.  And I ask myself…What type of church receives them?  Are these people receiving the necessary accompaniment to get to know all that God does in their lives and all that they can become to collaborate in his work?   I remember the story of Phillip and the eunuch.  Today many people ask us, How can I know if no one explains it to me?  Let’s reflect on what our answer will be.

Prayer: Lord, give us the strength to be a welcoming community.  Permit us to accompany many people on the walk of faith, so that they can feel secure in your promises and respond with a faith committed to your call.  Amen.

“¿CÓMO ENTENDER SI NADIE ME ENSEÑA?”
HECHOS 8: 26-40
si nadie me enseña”?
Hechos 8: 31a

Amen.
