WALK A MILE

IN THE SHOES OF THE MASTER

2 PETER 1:3-7

For this very reason,

make every effort to add to your faith goodness;

and to goodness, knowledge. (NIV)

  2 Peter 1:5

Sometime back I remember that I bought a new pair of shoes, and I had to adapt to them, which turned out not to be easy. They tended to press on my toes a little. But after a few weeks they adapted to my feet and became more comfortable.

The same occurs in Christian life. When we initiate our faith journey it doesn’t always turn out to be a comfortable trip. We attempt to follow Jesus’s example, put ourselves in his place; but we need to learn that it takes time to achieve a perfect adjustment.

God, in his infinite grace and mercy, knows that we stumble. We can deposit our hope in him with the confidence that he will understand it. The Lord is not up there with a giant thumb to squash us while we go about stumbling like novices in our spiritual journey. He does not look for opportunities to tell us that we’ve been mistaken. It’s just the opposite: he inspires us with his word.

In the Bible we find that the characters, although they become heroes and heroines of the faith, aren’t perfect. David, for example, committed many errors, but continued being defined as a man according to the heart of God. Likewise, we keep growing and learning with the help of the spirit; accordingly, our lives will also reflect more of him. And when we grow, we have more security of reaching our destiny: to be the true image of God.

Prayer: Compassionate Lord, thank you for your always present direction. Amen.

LOS ZAPATOS DEL MAESTRO

2 PEDRO 1:3-7

Precisamente por eso, esfuércense por añadir

a su fe virtud, a su virtud, entendimiento.

  2 Pedro 1:5

Recuerdo hace un tiempo que me compré un nuevo par de zapatos y tuve que adaptarme a ellos, lo cual no resultó fácil. Tendían a apretarme un poco los dedos. Pero después de unas cuantas semanas se adaptaron a mi pie y se volvieron más cómodos.

Lo mismo ocurre con la vida cristiana. Cuando iniciamos nuestro caminar de fe, no siempre resulta un viaje cómodo. Intentamos seguir el ejemplo de Jesús, ponernos en su lugar; pero necesitamos aprender que esto requiere de tiempo para lograr un ajuste perfecto.

Dios, en su infinita gracia y misericordia, sabe que tropezaremos. Podemos depositar nuestra esperanza en Él con la confianza de que Él lo comprenderá. El Señor no está ahí con un pulgar gigante para aplastarnos mientras nos vamos tambaleando como novatos en nuestro caminar espiritual. No busca oportunidades para decirnos que nos hemos equivocado. Es justo lo contrario: nos alienta con su palabra.

En la Biblia encontramos que los personajes, aunque resultan héroes y heroínas de la fe, no son perfectos: David, por ejemplo, cometió muchos errores, pero seguía siendo definido como un hombre según el corazón de Dios. Del mismo modo, conforme vamos creciendo y aprendiendo con la ayuda del Espíritu, nuestra vida también reflejará más de Él. Y cuando crecemos, tenemos más seguridad de alcanzar nuestro destino: ser verdadera imagen de Dios.
