THE GOSPEL IN
THEIR HANDS
MATTHEW 19:13-15
Train children in
the right way,
and when old, they will
not stray.
Proverbs 22:6
When we
take the hand of a child it’s not important if it is sticky from the last candy
they ate, if it’s full of sand from the nearby park, if it’s wet from playing
in the water in the garden . . . What matters most to us is the tenderness and
the hope that represents that special and marvelous being next to us. Those
hands today can give us the joy of a tender caress or of interweaving with ours
to play. Perhaps in the future, they will support us in our physical limitations;
in the future they will be able to serve many others and be able to open the
Scriptures to bring the Gospel of Jesus to those who need it. In the future
they can bring forth music, design, art . . . with them they may build new buildings
or save lives . . .
That is why
when we care for our children we must do so with one eye on the present, on
their welfare and security, but also with our hopes and conviction entrusting
them with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let’s ask God to give us the wisdom to
teach our sons and daughters that gospel of justice, peace, and life that they
can share in their lives. Let us also be a living gospel for our sons and
daughters!
Prayer: Lord, allow us to be responsible in the formation of new
generations. Jesus, good Master, help us to teach not only with our words, but
also with our actions, inspired by your example. Amen.

EL EVANGELIO EN SUS MANOS
MATEO 19:13-15
Enseña al niño a seguir fielmente su camino,
y aunque llegue a anciano no se apartará de él
Proverbios 22:6
Cuando tomamos las manos
de un niño, no nos importa si está pegajosa por el último dulce que comió, si
está llena de arena del parque cercano, si está mojada por jugar con el agua
del jardín… Lo que más nos importa es la ternura y la esperanza que representa
ese ser especial y maravilloso que está junto a nosotros. Esas manos son
capaces hoy de darnos la satisfacción de una caricia tierna, o de entrelazarse
con las nuestras para jugar. En el futuro quizás nos sostengan en medio de
nuestras limitaciones físicas, en el futuro podrán servir a otros y otras,
podrán abrir las Escrituras para llevar el Evangelio de Jesús a quienes lo
necesiten. En el futuro de ellas pueden brotar música, diseños, arte… con ellas
podrán quizás levantarse nuevos edificios o salvarán vidas…
Por eso, cuando cuidamos
de nuestros niños y niñas debemos hacerlo con la vista puesta en el presente,
en su bienestar y seguridad; pero también con nuestras esperanzas y convicción
de confiarles la buena noticia de Jesucristo. Pidamos a Dios que nos dé la
sabiduría para enseñar a nuestros hijos e hijas ese evangelio de justicia, paz
y vida que puedan compartir en sus vidas. ¡Seamos además evangelio vivo para
nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas!
Oración: Permítenos Señor, ser responsables en la
formación de las nuevas generaciones. Jesús, Maestro bueno, ayúdanos a educar
no sólo con nuestras palabras, sino con nuestras acciones, inspirados en tu
ejemplo. Amén.
