A DIFFICULT QUESTION

I TIMOTHY 2

I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession

and thanksgiving be made for everyone…

                                        1 Timothy 2:1 NIV

One may question if it is a blessing or a curse to have a mind that does not rest.  But it is preferable to be cynical rather than hypocritical and continue praying with one eye open, asking yourself:  what about hungry children, the power of prayer, Christians with cancer…Continue asking yourself difficult questions, questions which many times leave you with no desire to struggle and to believe. These are perhaps the same questions that the disciples must have asked in the midst of the storm.  They only saw dark cycles while they were shaken on the agitated boat ride.  Then a figure came walking toward them on the water.  It was not what they expected…they almost lost the opportunity to see their prayers answered. 

Today’s text exhorts us to pray and to give thanks.  Never forget to do this after every difficult question.  Unless we look and listen carefully, we risk making the same error as the disciples and of the people who lose faith.

If we know how to look for them, God’s lights in our dark nights are as numerous as the stars.

Prayer:  Lord, let us always look for the stars.  Through them you transmit to us your messages. Amen.

UNA PREGUNTA DIFÍCIL

I TIMOTEO 2

Exhorto ante todo, a que se hagan rogativas, oraciones,

peticiones, y acciones de gracia por todos los hombres.

                                        1 Timoteo 2:1

Uno  se pregunta si es una bendición  o una maldición tener una mente que no se aquieta. Pero es preferible ser cínico que hipócrita y sigue orando con un ojo abierto, preguntándote: sobre los niños hambrientos, sobre el poder de la oración, sobre los cristianos con cáncer… Continúa haciéndote preguntas difíciles, preguntas con las que muchas veces se te agotan los deseos de luchar y de creer. Estas quizás sean las mismas preguntas que los discípulos deben  haber hecho en medio de la tormenta. Ellos solamente veían ciclos oscuros mientras se zarandeaban en la agitada embarcación. Entonces una figura fue hacia ellos caminando sobre las aguas. No fue lo que esperaban…casi pierden la oportunidad de ver sus oraciones contestadas.

El texto de hoy, nos exhorta a orar, y dar gracias. Nunca olvides hacer esto después de cada pregunta difícil. Y a menos que miremos y escuchemos detenidamente, nos arriesgamos a cometer el mismo error de los discípulos y de la gente que pierde la fe.

Las luces de Dios en nuestras oscuras noches son tan numerosas  como las estrellas, si sabemos buscarlas.

Oración: Señor  permítenos buscar siempre las estrellas. A través de las cuales nos trasmites tus mensajes. Amén.
