LIVING IN A PRECARIOUS SITUATION

PSALM 18:1-3

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer… (NIV)

Psalm 18:2

It pains us each time to see more people who live in a precarious situation in our society. How many people without a home or work, obligated to live in difficult situations without knowing how long it will last!

The believer shouldn’t remain insensitive to such suffering, and generosity should characterize their response. In some way we all are living in a precarious situation before eternity. Who is exempt from a sudden economical misfortune, from a health problem? Who knows if they will be alive tomorrow?

All flesh is like grass, and all human glory is like a flower of grass. The grass dries, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains always (1 Peter 1:24 – 25).

This verse can be understood, as it’s comparing us to an ephemeral flower. It also tells us that in God we can find the enduring. It does not offer solutions to human problems, rather it assures us of eternal life. Believe in Him and he will prove that, day after day, our Celestial Father will take charge of all aspects of our earthly life.

Nevertheless, the most precarious situation that we can face is that of closing ourselves off and not sharing the love of Jesus. God wants us to be his hands and his voice in this world. Let us stop thinking only of our problems and let us reach out with our gestures of solidarity to those who need us.

Prayer: My Lord, my rock, today we pray for those people who find themselves in extremely precarious situations. May you accompany and fortify them through our actions. In your name we pray. Amen.

VIVIENDO EN UNA PRECARIA SITUACIÓN

SALMO 18:1-3

Dios mío, fortaleza mía, en él confiaré

Salmo 18:2

Nos duele ver cada vez a más personas que viven en una situación precaria en nuestra sociedad. ¡Cuántas personas sin vivienda, ni trabajo, obligadas a vivir en situaciones difíciles que no se sabe cuanto tiempo durará! El creyente no debe permanecer insensible a tales sufrimientos, y la generosidad debe caracterizarlo. De alguna manera todos vivimos en una situación precaria frente a la eternidad. ¿Quién está exento de una repentina desgracia económica, de un problema de salud? ¿Quién sabe si estará vivo mañana?

Toda carne es como hierba, y toda gloria del hombre como flor de la hierba. La hierba se seca, y la flor se cae, mas la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre (1 Pedro 1:24-25).

En este versículo, si bien se nos compara con una efímera flor, también se nos dice que en Dios podemos encontrar lo duradero. No ofrece soluciones a los problemas de los seres humanos, sino que les asegura la vida eterna. Confía en Él y comprobará que día tras día, nuestro Padre Celestial se encarga de todos los aspectos de nuestra vida terrenal. Sin embargo, la situación más precaria que podemos vivir es la de encerrarnos en nosotros mismos y no compartir el amor de Jesús. Dios quiere que seamos sus manos y su voz en este mundo. Dejemos de pensar solo en nuestros problemas y alcancemos con nuestros gestos de solidaridad a quienes nos necesitan.

Oración: Señor mío, roca mía, te pedimos hoy con aquellas personas que se encuentran en situaciones extremadamente precarias. Que tú los acompañes y fortalezcas a través de nuestras acciones. En tu nombre oramos. Amén.
