FROM THE REGULAR TO THE SPECIAL

 LUKE  1:39-45

Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world,

but be transformed by the renewing of your  minds

 so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.

Romans 12:2 CEB

We are almost in the shadow of Christmas.  The story of Mary’s visit to her relative Elizabeth could pass as a regular act, but what is special about two women, who are not what we would consider “personalities”, greeting one another?  Nevertheless, we would say in a way that the story is about the first meeting between Jesus and John the Baptist, albeit through the wombs of the two pregnant women. 

God is working through the bodies of these women, and the story invites us to observe how the divine power transforms them.  Elizabeth understands that God is doing great things through Mary.  The humble young woman from Nazareth is, in reality, the most important woman in history.  Her presence causes a jump of joy and enthusiasm.  Mary is great because she has believed, because she has given herself totally to God who has called her.  Mary has known in whom to confide, and that all that God has promised her will be fulfilled. 

God is also working in each of us, transforming the regular into the special.  Let us trust in Him. 

Prayer: Lord, I beseech you that you send the person you need in order to transform my life and do special things through me, Amen.

DE LO ORDINARIO A LO EXTRAORDINARIO

 LUCAS  1:39-45

Transfórmense por medio de la renovación de su mente,

para que comprueben cuál es la voluntad de Dios,

lo que es bueno, agradable y perfecto

Romanos 12:2

Estamos casi en el umbral de la Navidad. El relato de la visita de María a su parienta Elisabeth pasaría como un hecho ordinario, pues ¿qué de extraordinario tiene que dos mujeres, que no son de esas que pretenciosamente llamamos “personalidades”, se saluden? Sin embargo, de alguna manera diríamos que se trata del primer encuentro entre Jesús y Juan el Bautista, solo que a través de los vientres de dos mujeres embarazadas.

Dios está actuando desde dentro de los cuerpos de estas mujeres, y todo nos invita a observar cómo la fuerza divina las transforma. Elisabeth comprende que Dios está haciendo cosas grandes en María. La joven insignificante de Nazaret es, en realidad, la mujer más importante de la Historia. Su presencia hace saltar de alegría y de entusiasmo. María es grande porque ha creído, porque se ha entregado totalmente a Dios que la ha llamado. María ha sabido en quién confiar, y todo lo que Dios le ha prometido se cumplirá.

También Dios está actuando en cada uno de nosotros, transformando lo ordinario en extraordinario. Confiemos en Él.

Oración: Señor, te suplico que envíes al que has de enviar, para que transforme mi vida y haga en mí cosas extraordinarias. Amén.
