FULL OF HIS SPIRIT

LUKE 4:1-13

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan

 and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.  (NIV)

The wilderness is considered an inhospitable and dangerous place. Nevertheless, this text tells us that the Spirit led Jesus into the desert. In the preceding verse we note as well that Jesus comes to the Jordan full of Spirit. Now, it may be that we are coming from our Jordan, or that we’re going   to the infertile desert, so we should be full of the Spirit of God and allow ourselves to be guided by his voice.  

It’s fundamental that in each life experience the Spirit dwell in us, so as not to lose that necessary communion with our God. Only in this way can we conquer temptations and maintain our faithfulness to God, although many times temptations try to sway us.

We can maintain this communion with a prayerful life, one that communes with justice and divine mercy. Lent is a time of deep reflection that encourages us to cross our deserts, affirming the hope in a God who illuminates us amidst confusion, and who resuscitates us each day after a difficult experience.  Give up our rebelliousness and arrogance, and let us go to the encounter of the living God, full of his Spirit.

Prayer:  Compassionate God, we ask you that in this Lent you prepare our senses to be able to listen to your voice, and thus permit ourselves to be guided toward where you want us to follow, whether it be in the Jordan or in the desert of every day. Amen.

LLENOS DE SU ESPÍRITU

LUCAS 4:1-13

Jesús volvió del Jordán lleno del Espíritu Santo,

y fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto

Lucas 4:1

El desierto es considerado un lugar inhóspito y peligroso, sin embargo este texto nos dice que el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto. También en el versículo anterior notemos que Jesús viene del Jordán lleno del Espíritu. Ya sea que vengamos de nuestro Jordán o que vayamos al desierto infértil debemos estar llenos del Espíritu de Dios y dejarnos guiar por su voz.

En cada experiencia de vida es fundamental que el Espíritu more en nosotros, para no perder esa comunión necesaria con nuestro Dios. Sólo así podremos vencer las tentaciones y mantener nuestra fidelidad a Dios aunque muchas voces intenten apartarnos. Podemos mantener esta comunión con una vida orante, que comulga con la justicia y la misericordia divina.

Cuaresma es un tiempo de reflexión profunda que nos anima transitar nuestros desiertos, afirmando la esperanza en un Dios que nos ilumina en medio de la confusión, y nos resucita cada día después de una experiencia difícil. Dejemos nuestras rebeldías y arrogancias y vayamos al encuentro del Dios vivo, llenos de su Espíritu.

Oración: Dios compasivo, te pedimos que en esta Cuaresma preparemos nuestros sentidos para poder escuchar tu voz y así dejarnos guiar hacia donde quieres que te sigamos, ya sea en el Jordán o en el desierto de cada día.
