WHAT SHOULD I DO?
MARK 10:17-27
Go, sell what you
own, and give the money to the poor.
Then you will have
treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.
Mark 10:21 (CEB)
This is a gospel before which it is difficult
to remain indifferent, if one meets it with a sincere heart.
No one can doubt the good intentions of this young
man who approached Jesus Christ to ask him a question: Good
teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life? (Mark 10:17) Through
that to which St. Mark refers us, in his heart there was a need for something
more. It is easy to suppose that—like a
good Israelite—he knew very well what the Law said in this respect, but internally
he had an uncertainty, a need to go further, and for this reason, he formally
questioned Jesus.
In our Christian life, we must learn to overcome
this vision that reduces faith to a question of simple compliance. Our faith is much more. It is an adherence of the heart to Someone
who is God. When we put our heart into
something, we also put our life, and in the case of faith, we overcome then the
conformism that seems to oppress the existence of so many believers today. The one who loves gives.
Jesus’ answer to the question of the young man is an open door to this
total donation through love: Go, sell
what you own, and give the money to the poor.
Then you will have treasure in heaven.
And come, follow me. (Mark 10:21). This kind of giving is a genuine expression of
love. This is the key to living our
relationship with God. May the Lord find
in us not only a sincere heart, but also a generous and open heart to the requirements
of love.
Prayer: Lord Jesus,
I ask you this day to guide me as you did with the young man who approached
you. Don’t let go of my hand. I trust in you. Amen.

¿QUÉ DEBO HACER?
MARCOS 10:17-27
Anda y vende
todo lo que tienes, y dáselo a los pobres (…);
después de
eso, ven y sígueme.

Este es un evangelio ante el
cual es difícil permanecer indiferente, si se afronta con sinceridad de
corazón.
Nadie puede dudar de las buenas
intenciones de aquel joven que se acercó a Jesucristo para hacerle una
pregunta: Maestro bueno: ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna? (Mc
10,17). Por lo que nos refiere san Marcos, está claro que en ese corazón había necesidad
de algo más, pues es fácil suponer que —como buen israelita— conocía muy bien
lo que la Ley decía al respecto, pero en su interior había una inquietud, una
necesidad de ir más allá y, por eso, interpela a Jesús.
En nuestra vida cristiana
tenemos que aprender a superar esa visión que reduce la fe a una cuestión de
mero cumplimiento. Nuestra fe es mucho más. Es una adhesión de corazón a
Alguien, que es Dios. Cuando ponemos el corazón en algo, ponemos también la
vida y, en el caso de la fe, superamos entonces el conformismo que parece hoy
oprimir la existencia de tantos creyentes. Quien ama se da.
En realidad, la respuesta de
Jesús a la pregunta del joven es una puerta abierta a esa donación total por
amor: Anda y vende todo lo que tienes, y dáselo a los pobres (…); después de
eso, ven y sígueme. (Mc 10,21). Es
un darse que es expresión genuina del amor. Vivamos nuestra relación con Dios
en esa clave. Que el Señor encuentre en nosotros no sólo un corazón sincero,
sino también un corazón generoso y abierto a las exigencias del amor
Oración: Señor
Jesús, te pido en este día me guíes como lo hiciste con el joven que se acercó
a ti. No me dejes de la mano. En ti confío. Amén.
