NOT IN SERVICE OR OUTSIDE THE COVERAGE AREA

EPHESIANS 5:1-20

Wake up, sleeper!  Get up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

Ephesians 5:14 (CEB)

When I try to call on my cell phone and I get this message: “The cell phone you have called is not in service or outside the coverage area,” a heavy feeling of powerlessness takes over me.  The same reaction happens to me with some people who live out the meaning of this message:  off or outside of the coverage area.  I speak of these people who do not change themselves given the situations around them, who do not like to commit themselves to work in the community, who prefer to live in a bubble, without participating in anything that takes them out of their comfort zone or inertia.

God invites us to wake up from our lethargy and to be always “connected” with God’s kingdom of justice.  It is useless to call ourselves Christians if we are not sensitive to what happens around us, or if we are not available for those who need us.

Prayer:  Forgive us, Lord, when we live as if we are asleep, away from your call.  Allow us to always be attentive to the needs of those who are around us.  Help us to be connected to you in every moment of our existence.  Amen.

APAGADO O FUERA DEL ÁREA DE COBERTURA

EFESIOS 5:1-20

Por lo cual dice: despiértate, tú que duermes,

y levántate de los muertos y te alumbrará Cristo

Efesios 5:14

Cada vez que intento comunicarme con mi teléfono móvil y me sale este mensaje: “El móvil que usted llama está apagado o fuera del área de cobertura,” un gran sentimiento de impotencia se apodera de mí. La misma reacción me producen algunas personas que viven como lo expresa este mensaje: apagadas o fuera del área de cobertura. Hablo de esas personas que no se inmutan ante las situaciones a su alrededor, que no les gusta comprometerse con el trabajo en la comunidad, que prefieren vivir como en una burbuja, sin participar en nada que les saque de su comodidad o inmovilidad.

Dios nos invita a despertar de nuestros letargos y a estar siempre “conectados” con su reino de justicia. De nada sirve que nos llamemos cristianos, si no somos sensibles con lo que sucede a nuestro alrededor, o si no estamos disponibles ante aquellos que necesitan de nosotros.

Oración:  Perdónanos Señor, cuando vivimos como dormidos, alejados de tu llamado. Permite que estemos siempre atentos a las necesidades que están a nuestro alrededor. Ayúdanos a estar conectados contigo en cada minuto de nuestra existencia. Amén.
