COMPETING FOR THE LORD

HEBREWS 12:1-6

So then let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us,

since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us.

Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up…

Who does not admire the competitor who wins a medal after having been practically out of the competition?  The basketball team that wins after having a great rally of points against them gets us even more excited than the team that always wins the games with a great lead from the start.

The same type of inspiration is what motivates the Christian when he is found at a distance from his Lord and Savior. 

No one was humiliated as much as the Lord Jesus before returning triumphantly. He was injured, stripped of his clothing, beaten and nailed to a cross.  When his suffering was over, they pierced his side with a spear.  His executioners confirmed their triumph over him and declared him dead.  A military guard secured the tomb. 

Was there anyone who was more out of the competition?  But it was not over.  This was only the beginning.  Three days later, his resurrection from the dead declared him the winner of the fight against death, against sin and against the fires of hell; the bottomless pit would otherwise have swallowed those whom He loved dearly. 

Believer, do you feel today out of the race?  Have you stumbled?  Then, contemplate the sufferings of Jesus.  Look at his resurrection.  Trust that he alone will give you the victory.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord Jesus, for your resurrection, for your great victory that revives our hope and returns us to life with its struggles and victories.  Amen.

              COMPITIENDO PARA EL SEÑOR

HEBREOS 12:1-6

Por tanto, nosotros también….despojémonos de todo peso y del pecado que nos asedia… y corramos con paciencia la carrera

que tenemos por delante

Hebreos 12:1

¿A quién  no le admira el competidor que gana una medalla después de  haber estado prácticamente fuera de la competencia? El equipo de baloncesto que después de haber tenido una gran carga de puntos en contra reacciona y gana a su contrario, nos entusiasma aun más que el equipo que constantemente gana todos los partidos consiguiendo una gran ventaja ya desde el comienzo.

El mismo tipo de inspiración es el que motiva al cristiano cuando consigue aliento de su Señor y Salvador. Nadie estuvo tan humillado como el Señor Jesús antes de volver triunfante. Fue injuriado, despojado de sus vestiduras, azotado y clavado en una cruz. Cuando su sufrimiento hubo llegado a su fin, le clavaron una lanza en el costado. Sus verdugos confirmaron su triunfo sobre Él y lo declararon muerto. Una guardia militar aseguró su tumba.

¿Alguien podría estar más fuera de una competición? Pero no había acabado. Esto era solamente el comienzo. Tres días después, su resurrección de entre los muertos le declararon el vencedor de su lucha contra la muerte, contra el pecado y contra el infierno; el abismo sin fondo que de otra manera se hubiera tragado a aquellos que Él amaba entrañablemente.

Creyente ¿Te sientes hoy fuera de la carrera? ¿Has tropezado? Entonces, contempla los sufrimientos de Jesús. Mira su resurrección. Confía en que sólo él te dará la victoria.

Oración: Gracias Señor Jesús, por tu resurrección, por tu gran victoria que aviva nuestra esperanza y nos devuelve a la vida con sus luchas y victorias. Amén.
