Jesus said:
“Take away the stone”…

For Christians, faith is fundamental. We speak a great deal
about the importance of having faith to confront life’s problems, and we praise
God for increasing our faith, and this is important. At the same time, we must
recognize that belief is action, something that involves our whole person, that
makes us feel and act, because we recall St. James’ phrase that faith without
works is dead.
The text of the meditation today is revealing about faith. Jesus
knew beforehand what was happening, but He had a plan and a purpose. Our faith
invites us to act, it is not immobile or paralyzing. Jesus said: Take away
the stone, and then he called in a loud voice: Lazarus, come out!
So we have unavoidable responsibilities in the mission that God
has entrusted to us. We have to get ready, act, and do; we have “to take away
the stones of every day” that immobilize us and stifle us. That obstacle, that
problem, that difficulty that blocks our progress can be overcome with active
faith. Trust, act in accordance with divine will, and trust that without fail
God will always do his part.
Prayer: Jesus, give me the
necessary strength to act, to work, and to take away from my path any stone
that immobilizes me. We pray in your name, amen.

Dijo Jesús: Quitad la piedra…

Para los cristianos la fe es algo primordial. Hablamos
mucho sobre la importancia de tener fe para enfrentar las situaciones difíciles
de la vida y ofrecemos testimonios de gratitud a Dios por la fe que hace crecer
en nosotros, y eso es importante. Al mismo tiempo es necesario reconocer que
creer es acción, es algo que involucra toda nuestra persona, que nos hace
sentir, actuar, pensar, nos moviliza, no es un mero cuadro contemplativo en
oración, no es una espera pasiva, pues recordemos que al decir de Santiago la
fe sin obras es muerta.
El texto de la meditación de hoy resulta conmovedor en
relación a la fe. Jesús sabía de
antemano lo que estaba sucediendo, pero Él tenía un plan y un propósito. Nuestra fe nos convida a actuar, no es
inmóvil ni paralizante. Jesús dijo: Quitad la piedra, y posteriormente
clamó a gran voz: ¡Lázaro, ven fuera!
De manera que tenemos responsabilidades ineludibles para
con la misión que Dios nos encomendó. Tenemos que movilizarnos, actuar, hacer;
tenemos que “quitar las piedras de cada día” que nos inmovilizan, que nos
mantienen inertes. Ese obstáculo, ese problema, esa dificultad que está ahí y
que nos impide avanzar, puede ser superado con una fe activa. Confía, actúa
según la voluntad divina y espera que, sin duda, Dios siempre hace su parte.
Oración: Jesús,
dame la fuerza necesaria para actuar, para trabajar, y para quitar de mi camino
la piedra que me inmoviliza. En tu nombre oramos, amén.
