GOD BLESS YOU
ACTS 7:54-60
But Stephen, filled
with the Holy Spirit,
gazed into heaven
and saw the glory of God
and Jesus standing
at the right hand of God.

The word
“blessing” appears dozens of times in the Old and New Testaments. We always
encounter it when it forms part of a story where its significance plays a
decisive part.
Stephen was
on his knees. He had been brutally beaten over many hours. In the middle of a
field in the darkness of night he realized that the end of his life was
approaching. Remembering what as a Christian he had read many times he decided
to pray to God for those who mistreated him and were taking his life. One of
his captors, according to the testimony of a witness, pulled out his pistol,
blasphemed, saying he didn’t need a blessing from anybody, and shot Stephen
Hernández Alfonso to death.
God’s
blessing is the greatest thing that a believer can count on. A phrase with such
significance should not be a substitute for “Good day” or translate itself into
an elegant way to end a conversation. Let’s ask God to bless us and others, but
let’s do it as what it is: a fervent prayer asking for the company and
direction of God and the Holy Spirit for everyone. Thus will we be truly
blessed and desire blessing for others.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your constant and continuing blessing
in my life. Amen.

que estaba a la diestra de Dios.

La palabra “bendición”
aparece decenas de veces en el Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento. Siempre que la
encontramos forma parte de un relato donde su significado juega un papel
determinante.
Esteban estaba de
rodillas. Había sido golpeado brutalmente durante muchas horas. En medio del
campo y en la oscuridad de la noche, se percató que el fin de su vida se
acercaba. Rememorando lo que como cristiano había leído varias veces, decidió
pedirle a Dios por aquellos que lo maltrataban y le quitaban la vida. Uno de
sus captores, de acuerdo a la información de un testigo presencial, extrajo su
pistola, blasfemó diciendo que él no necesitaba bendición de nadie y ultimó a
balazos a Esteban Hernández Alfonso.
La bendición de Dios es
lo más grande con que puede contar el creyente. Una frase con tanta
significación no puede sustituir a “buenos días” o traducirse en una forma más
o menos elegante con que concluir una conversación. Pidamos a Dios que nos
bendiga a nosotros y a otros; pero hagámoslo como lo que es: una ferviente
oración pidiendo para todos la compañía y dirección de Dios y el Espíritu
Santo. Así realmente seremos bendecidos y desearemos bendición para otros.
Oración: Gracias Señor, por tu bendición constante y
continua en mi vida. Amén.
