DECISION!
LUKE 9:51-56
... he set his face
to go to Jerusalem.

The writer
Luke couldn’t have chosen better words to express his ideas than such a short
phrase: He set his face.
Luke said
this in what we could point to as Jesus’ last trip to Jerusalem. Here began the
end of his life before going to Calvary and facing the cross and setting his
face to meet death. He didn’t desist because making the trip was his decision.
The road was long, and the end was sacrifice, thus fulfilling a compact with
his Father.
All the
great people of the world have made a decision and generally come to a sad end.
With Christ, it didn’t happen that way because although it appeared to be
defeat, his death on the cross was vindicated by his resurrection.
All of this
forces as us Christians to think that we have made the decision to follow the
Teacher all the way to the end of our lives, and to wonder if we are prepared
to pay the price of that decision no matter the cost. Let’s not be like those
who, at the first trial, leave the narrow path to follow the broad way that
leads us to damnation.
Prayer: God, we pray that you give us firmness and decisiveness to
follow you. Amen.

El autor Lucas no pudo
escoger mejores palabras para expresar tanto en tan breve frase: Afirmó su rostro. Lucas dijo esto en lo
que pudiéramos señalar como el último viaje de Jesús a Jerusalén. Aquí
comenzaba el final de su vida hasta llegar al Calvario y enfrentarse a la cruz
y afirmó su rostro para enfrentarse a la muerte. No desistió de hacer ese viaje
porque esa era su decisión. El camino era largo y al final estaba el
sacrificio, cumpliendo así lo pactado con su Padre.
Todos los grandes seres
humanos del mundo han tenido una decisión y un final generalmente triste. En
Cristo no sucedió así, porque, aunque pareció derrota, su muerte en la cruz fue
vencida con su resurrección.
Todo esto nos hace
pensar como cristianos y cristianas, que hemos hecho la decisión de seguir al
Maestro hasta el final de nuestras vidas, si estamos dispuestos a pagar el
precio de esta decisión cueste lo que cueste. Que no seamos como aquellos que a
la primera prueba dejan el camino estrecho, para seguir el ancho que solo nos lleva
a la perdición.
Oración: Dios nuestro, rogamos porque nos des firmeza y
decisión en seguirte. Amén.
